MAC Holiday 2014: Heirloom Mix
MAC Holiday 2014: Heirloom Mix collection
MAC comes up with their holiday collection last October 19th, Sunday, online, and October 23rd in stores and counters. Normally, MAC comes up with two waves of the holiday collections. The first wave is the colour collection (in this instance, the Heirloom Mix color collection) and the gift sets ( MAC Keepsakes Eye Bags, Eye Palettes, Lip Bags, Brush Kits), and the second wave is called MAC Objects of Affection that includes the pigments, Lip Glass Kits and Lip Palettes.
I shall divide the MAC Heirloom Mix colour collection into several posts. Let's focus on the lipsticks this time! Below are my MAC Heirloom Mix lipstick swatches, and my thoughts on these.

This year's theme is all about being a rebel, being anti-antique, anti-tradition. This is why the packaging of this year's colour collection is filled with encrusted micro-glitter. It is all over the compacts and lipstick tubes. The MAC sales associates found the display a tad annoying- there was a lot of glitter fallout from the cardboard displays that it goes to people's hands and clothes. You won't see that on the product themselves, as the glitters are encrusted on the packaging.
I have three of the five lippies from this collection, but I swatched all five. As expected, the colors are very vibrant, bold and are true head-turners, as you want your lips to stand out during the most festive of seasons.

MAC Tribalist is a deep purple berry in the matte formula. This is my least favorite out of the lipsticks in this collection, just because I feel that it's a tad too dark for me. MAC Rebel is an obvious favorite. It's a part of the permanent collection, so if you are not into special packaging, you can skip this one from this collection. Rebel is described as a pink plum in the satin formula.
MAC No Faux Pas is a clear favorite - and I think it was one of the colors that sold out first on the MAC website. It's a hot pink in the matte formula, and I think it is a lot more wearable than let's say MAC Candy Yum Yum.
I also like MAC Sparks of Romance, described as a true red with a "matte frost" finish. That's to say that it's not a true matte, but it has more of a sheen to it. The sheen is very subtle and it has a gold flash to it. Absolutely beautiful.
MAC Salon Rouge is a berry red. This would be a great fall color, and if you like berry shades, this one is for you.

All in all, I am liking the colors from this holiday collection from MAC, but I feel that there are way too many red-based shades. I would love to get a purple-based lipstick (or a deep clean purple), or a nice neutral. That said, this is a solid collection with lots of traditional and classic shades. I particularly like the fact that they made the lipstick finishes matte, satin or matte frost - nothing too overly sparkly or glittery.
