We all have our signature summer fragrance, and as we transition into fall, we need the right scent to go with the changing of seasons. We need more warmth, more sophistication, and yet we want a scent that is just as feminine as our summer fragrance. That's what I think of when I get a whiff of Estee Lauder's new fragrance, Modern Muse.
This fragrance is all about dualities. It is inspired by the duality of every woman who is a study of contrasts. Estee Lauder describes this fragrance as a lush floral woodsy scent. Its innovative “dual-impression” structure has two contrasting aspects: (1) a Sparkling Jasmine Accord that combines the essence of Exotic Mandarin and Honeysuckle Nectar, and also has extractions of Jasmine Sambac, Jasmine Sambac China Absolute and Tuberose Fleur and Fresh Lily, and (2) a Sleek Woods Accord, with a blend of two Patchouli essences wrapped in the creaminess of Madagascar Vanilla, rich Amber Wood and soft Musk.
Even the packaging is made up of contrasting elements - a sleek bottle in blush pink contrasting with navy blue, and a tall, sleek bottle with softly rounded edges. I especially like the combination of blush pink and dark blue - it somehow shows that a woman has both girly and strong attributes that make up who she is.
At first spray, it is intensely floral Very jasmine, with a strong dose of citrus. The middle notes are tuberose, lily, honeysuckle, Chinese Sambac and Jasmine Sambac, so you can really imagine the floral aspect of this fragrance, The drydown is undeniably very earthy, very woodsy: Patchouli, Patchouli Leaf, Madagascar Vanilla, Amber Wood, Musk. I can thus understand why Estee Lauder calls this fragrance a duality. Its floral side captures the sophistication of every woman, but the earth notes show her raw, natural side.
Since I am a sucker for citrus and floral, I like this scent, but will only use it for special events as I feel that the musk is a little too heavy for daily wear. It is a sophisticated scent, earthy, powerful, yet feminine all at once.
