China Glaze Hologlam Swatches and Review Part 1

(Media sample)

I was pretty excited when I tried these, as like any nail polish enthusiast.  A lot of people are crazy about holos, so when China Glaze announced the Hologlam collection, people got curious and excited and wanted to compare it to the great China Glaze collection called OMG.  I will talk about the holo in this collection at the end of this post, but first, here are the swatches of the first six polishes from the Hologlam collection.

China Glaze Cosmic Dust

China Glaze Cosmic Dust is one of my favorites from this collection.  Under the sun it's a holographic pewter-silver with nice flashes of the holo flame.  Indoors, it's a silver metallic.

China Glaze Sci-Fly By

China Glaze Hologlam

China Glaze Sci-Fly By is a holo silver blue under direct sunlight.  Indoors, it's an icy blue metallic, almost frosty.

China Glaze Take a Trek

China Glaze Hologlam

I love the blues in this collection.  China Glaze Take a Trek is a denim blue holo under sunlight, and a metallic navy blue indoors or under the shade.

China Glaze Don't Be A Luna-tic

China Glaze Don't Be A Luna-tic

China Glaze Hologlam

China Glaze Don't Be A Luna-tic is a light silver green holo under the sun, and a silvery green metallic indoors.  The holo of this polish was the hardest to capture in the photos.  My camera couldn't focus on the holo and often came out blurry.

China Glaze Strap on Your Moonboots

China Glaze Strap on Your Moonboots is gorgeous.  It is a deep midnight sky blue holo under the sun, and a metallic dark blue indoors or under the shade.

China Glaze OMG A UFO

(shade)

China Glaze OMG A UFO is another one I like.  It's a pretty olive green holo in the sun, and a metallic olive green indoors or under the shade.

Now let's go to the holo.  The holo is non-existent indoors or under the shade except if it's under a concentrated source of light like a lamp.  It's not automatically holographic once it's under the sun; you need to find the right angle for the holo to show up.  This is unlike the China Glaze OMGs where the holo is visibly apparent at every angle, and sometimes even indoors near a source of light.

However, as you can see in the pictures, once you find the right angle, the holos are glorious.  I prefer these kinds of linear holos (or holos that produce a "flame-like" image that goes from the top to the bottom of the nail).  I am not really into scattered holos where the holo particles don't create a flame.

To be honest, though, I love my China Glaze OMGs better than the Hologlams.  The Hologlams are very pretty, but nothing compares to the beautiful flames of my OMGs, especially under direct sunlight.  The only good thing about the Hologlams is that even though the holos are not readily apparent indoors, the polish morphs into a nice, shiny, metallic finish on the nails.

My favorites in this first batch are the blues - China Glaze Sci-Fly By and Strap on Your Moonboots, OMG a UFO, and the very pretty pewter Cosmic Dust.

The China Glaze® Hologlam collection will be available in April 2013 (and some are already available at Sally's and online) at fine salons and beauty supply stores nationwide with an SRP of $14.

China Glaze is free of DBP, toluene, and added formaldehyde.

My favorire is OMG A UFO but $14 is a bit high for a bottle of nail polish.
