OPI Halloween 2012: So So Skullicious Mini Set Swatches and Review
Monday, October 1, 2012
October is here, and you know what's around the corner! This is one of my favorite times of the year because makeup and nail polish brands scramble to come up with their own Halloween collection. This year, OPI launches a mini set that includes 4 shades and skull decals. I was not able to try out the decals, but I will try to come up with a nail art look using those. Meanwhile, here are some swatches of the four nail colors.
OPI Candlelight (sunlight)
(shade)
I was surprised with OPI Candlelight. I thought it would be your regular primary yellow shade, but this comes up as a gold-er, like a sunshiny gold shade. It is not too bright and the the finish is gorgeous - not shiny but not super matte either. This is more of a jelly to my eyes.
OPI Hi, Pumpkin! (sunlight)
(shade)
OPI Hi, Pumpkin! is an almost neon orange but not quite. Definitely not your obnoxious neon orange. Love the bright shade, but very wearable and very Halloween.
OPI Mourning Glory (sunlight)
(shade)
OPI Mourning Glory is your typical black, but it has like a rubber finish just like Illamasqua's rubber nail lacquers. It's a nice, pigmented black, but I'm not too excited about blacks, although I'm glad I have a staple black in the mini version.
OPI A-Rose From the Dead (sunlight)
(shade)
OPI A-Rose From the Dead is a bright pink hue. It's not very unique but I really like the finish - very jelly-satin.
I liked the formulas of these shades, especially the jelly-like ones with the exception of Mourning Glory. I feel that yes, the shades are not unique, but I liked the unique finish and texture of these nail lacquers. They have a soft (as opposed to a high) shine and the jelly finish prevents these from looking garish.
What do you think of the shades?
Note: Media sample was provided by a representative of the brand for consideration. All opinions are completely mine.
