MAC Marilyn Monroe

As far as I know, these nail lacquers are still available on the MAC website with the exception of Vintage Vamp, so I don't think it's moot to post a review of these nail lacquers. They came in the same packaging as the rest of the Marilyn Monroe collection. The thing that I don't like about the packaging is that it pretty much covered up the color of the nail lacquer. Maybe a smaller label could have sufficed. It may be a minor issue to some, but sometimes looking at the bottle to see the color is how people are convinced to buy the nail lacquer.

Let's get started with the ones that I have: 4 really creamy, red/vampy shades that are perfect for fall and the holidays.

MAC Flaming Rose (sunlight)

MAC Flaming Rose (shade)

MAC Flaming Rose is described as a bright true red creme, and I like how very opaque it is in two coats. Even the first coat is saturated with color and was not streaky. I think this is my favorite out of the 4 Marilyn Monroe nail lacquer shades that I have.

MAC Kid Orange (sunlight)

This is a nice shade although sometimes orange nail lacquers make my skintone look dirty. This one is okay, though. It is a bit sheer in coverage compared to the really opaque creams of the other Marilyn Monroe lacquers.

MAC Stage Red (sunlight)

MAC Stage Red (shade)

MAC Stage Red is a deep berry-red cream. Pretty much a straightforward shade, but pretty and apt for the fall/holidays.

MAC Vintage Vamp (sunlight)

MAC Vintage Vamp is a deep wine cream. It's a nice vampy shade that would go well with the deeper lipsticks of this collection.

All in all, the nail lacquers from this collection are not entirely unique. However, they go well with the theme of the collection which all about the iconic femme fatale, and when we think of Marilyn, we think of rich, deep, bright, classic reds. I also like that the formula of the lacquers are good- not streaky, opaque, a breeze to apply on the nails. However, like many people, I think that MAC's nail lacquers have increased in price exponentially throughout these past years. I wished they were a bit more affordable. That said, I think that MAC's nail lacquer formula has improved quite a bit since I started using them 5 years ago.
