Total Beauty Collection for HSN Review
Sunday, September 16, 2012
I was able to try out the Total Beauty Collection for HSN or Home Shopping Network. The samples were specifically assembled from HSN's fan faves. They were chosen by the Total Beauty editorial team as part of the special partnership event. These are at least 7 samples in the box. They are not particularly large samples, but there was a good mix and some really did impress me. Here are my thoughts on the samples.
Prai Neck and Decolletage Cream
Prai Neck and Decolletage Cream Blended
We always make sure to slather moisturizers and creams on our faces, but we almost always consider the neck/decolletage area as an afterthought. I've seen older women who have perfect, almost wrinkle-free faces but their necks show their true age. This is the reason why I always make sure to moisturize my neck, although I do admit that I often forget my decolletage. This is the reason why I was happy to see that there is a cream that specifically targets these often-neglected areas. The cream is light and non-sticky, because it would look odd if your neck is greasy with heavy cream. This moisturizes the area nicely without the greasy look and feel.
Boscia Luminizing Black Mask
I've been a fan of the Boscia oil blotting linens, so I was looking forward to trying this Luminizing Mask. The box says that this is a peel-off mask that is supposed to boost clarity and skin radiance. It removes dirt and impurities while refining the look of pores. It contains Vitamin C to help brighten the skintone.
I tried it this morning and a little goes a long way. After applying the product, I felt a tightening of my skin just like other masks would feel. When it was time to take it off, I had a hard time peeling it off so I just washed it off using a facial sponge and cleanser. It did reveal a brighter, softer, smoother complexion, but I felt that it did not particularly make my pores look smaller. I do like the brightening effect it gave to my skin.
This collection contains a sample size of the Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara. It has this sloping brush that made it easier to reach the corner lashes. As with most typical mascaras, it is important to scrape off excess product from the tip of the brush or else you will end up with spidery, clumpy lashes. I have sparse, very short lashes, so this mascara really helped in the volumizing department.
Signature Club A Precious Moroccan Argan Oil Oasis Day Cream SPF25
This is one of my favorite products from this collection. I like that it has a pretty high SPF of 25, I just wished they made it an SPF30 because I don't usually wear anything less. For this particular review, I made an exception. It is a beautifully textured, rich but light-feeling cream that glides smoothly and absorbs into the skin really well. It made my skin really nicely moisturized and prepped for the application of makeup. Again, this is a really great cream, especially since I love argan oil and this substance loves my skin back. As I said, I just wished it has a higher SPF. Other than that, I have no complaints about this product. Amazing day cream.
Amika Oil Treatment
I am not really into hair oil treatments as I have rather oily hair, but there are days that I use this especially if my hair is a little dry because of too much washing or sun exposure. The Amika Oil Treatment is an anti-frizz product and gives shine and nourishment to the hair with Sea Buckthorn Berry extract. It has a light scent and the oil is light and does not make the hair look excessively greasy. I just hate the packaging as it has this stopper that is very hard to pry out of the bottle.
Lastly, this is the sample that I did not like. It is so freaking small, I don't even know if this would last me a couple of applications. This Lorac Lipgloss with Benefits in Chuck has a nice texture, nicely thick as opposed to runny, and pigmented. It has acai berry, pomegranate extracts and Vitamin C & E to pamper the lips. Whatever good points this product has was overshadowed by the fact that the sample was extremely miniscule that I was not able to even enjoy the product.
Intelliwhite Pro White toothpaste
I honestly don't know how to review toothpaste. It just tastes and feels like most toothpastes I've tried, and I have not tried it long enough to see if this will whiten my teeth. However, it is a nice travel size that I will bring with me to work.
All in all, this box has a nice good blend of great products and they are high-end brands that have great and consistent quality. My favorites are the Signature Club A Moroccan Argan Oil day cream, the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask, and the Lancome Hypnose Mascara.
On September 27th, HSN will exclusively feature 8 of their popular beauty brands, and most of which are the ones I've just reviewed. Buyers will receive all 8 products for just $19.95 plus free shipping. Boxes can be purchased during the live show via phone or at HSN.com.

I too was able to try the Totalbeauty.com for HSN sampling box. I almost died when i saw the Lorac gloss. i laughed, really, really hard. Kind of like, what is the point. i love Lorac cosmetics and actually have other glosses of their and knew what to expect, thankfully. As far as the Intelliwhite. I used it all the way through the tube without going back to my preferred paste to give it a shot. Honestly, i saw no change, none at all. With a father in the dentistry business I made a phone call to ask about these products and i got a bit of a chuckle which answered my question. I can't use the Signature Club A moisturizer on my face, so I used it on my hands-ahhhhhh..... I pulled that dabber out of the Amika and although i have to be careful how much I get I am liking it a lot better than the Ojon oil I was using. With oily hair myself i use it for the same reason. The Boscia mask was too harsh for my face, even though i love their cleansers and their White Mask but the biggest surprise for me was how much i LOVED the Lancome mascara. I've actually gone and purchased a full size now because I too have sparse and shorter lashes. I felt like this helped me look my best and replaces the Origins Ginzing mascara as my current favorite! Thank you for your blazingly honest reviews! I have tried a few of the boxes you have suggested and have never been disappointing!
