Under Shade:
I did a video review of the MAC Electric Cool Eye Shadow in Black Lit, and I compared it with the MAC Extra Dimension eye shadow in terms of texture, pigmentation and finish. This time, I will be giving an update on my review, this time on the staying power of the Electric Cool eye shadow.
As I mentioned in my video review, this product has a very squishy, bouncy texture, and is quite moist, almost as moist as the paint pots. It is very metallic and pigmented even without a base. I love how vibrant the shades are, as you can see in the photos.
Pure Flash! is a metallic champagne that I got because I know I'll be using this often because it's a wearable neutral. Love Power is a shimmering light pink that I don't care very much about as I have lots of mineralize eye shadows like this one. Dynamo is a beautiful mid-tone coral that is more unique than some of the shades in this collection. Coil is a copper bronze. I also got Superwatt, a shimmering taupe that is a nice neutral as well.
Brilliantly Lit is an acid yellow green, Fashion Circuit is a bright Kelly green that is SO pretty, and would look great either as a lower lid shadow or a liner for a great pop of color on the eyes. Infra-Violet is a mid-tone pink violet with blue pearl, and I think one of the pretties in the bunch because of the blue pearl in it. Highly Charged is a bright purple with pink pearl. Switch to Blue is my top favorite in terms of the color, a very bright, rich cobalt blue. So pretty! Blacklit is black with multi-dimensional pearl which I used in my video review (see link), and Electroplate is a cool gunmetal grey.
My top favorites would have to be the staple neutrals like Superwatt, Blacklit and Pure Flash, and the beautiful jewel-tones, Switch to Blue, Highly Charged and Fashion Circuit.
As far as application goes, I use either my fingers or a stiff flat shader brush to apply these, and they glide easily on the skin. I never apply my shadows without a primer underneath, because I think that is just S.O.P. and thus I always test eye shadows with primer. As far as staying power goes, this stayed on my lids for 6 hours with primer underneath. The makeup artist at MAC told me that their book says that this product "moves with skin", so this is not really a long-wearing product, and I don't think MAC claims it as such.
All in all, the MAC Electric Cool eye shadow really has amazing pigmentation and slip. It glides like butter on the skin, but does not last long on the lids even with primer. Adding powder shadows on top would prolong the staying power, but the longest it stayed on my lids without creasing and fading is six hours, even with primer.
Pros: bright, saturated colors, great pigmentation, glides easily on the skin, easy application
Cons: fades and creases after six hours even with primer
