I was able to play with some of the mineralize shadows from MAC's Heavenly Creature collection. I thought I wouldn't like the shades because I hardly use my mineralize shadows. I did find some of the neutrals to be really pretty and some have really unique shades. One of the more unique shades is Water. It is a yellow, lime green and blue melange, but when applied and blended on the skin, it becomes this greenish grey that is quite pretty. I used Water on my crease in the look below:

I love how it's not quite green but not quite grey either. Really nice shade.

Invincible Light is an icy white, lavender and warm gold melange. This is great as a brow or inner corner highlight. It is not very unique though.

Bright Moon is a grey, silver and icy green melange. I really like this shade; great as a lid color.

Universal Appeal is a gold, bronze and violet melange. It morphs into different shades according to how you foil it or which angle the light hits it. Its nuances are varying and cool.

Earthly is my pick for the best neutral in this collection. It is a beige, peach and cool brown melange. This would look great with neutrals, oranges, coppers, golds. This would make a great, fool-proof lid color.

Sky is a green, gold, turquoise and cobald melange. I have a lot of blues and I have seen blue mineralize shadows before, so I have little love for this.

Neo Nebula is a cream, warm amethyst and warm pink melange. It applies like a metallic light pink on the skin. Not my type.

Magnetic Attraction is pretty, an orange, pink and gold melange. I think this can double as a cheek highlight or blush as well.

Aurora is probably the star of the mineralize shadows in this collection. It is peach, green and gold, but it looks amazing as a lid or crease color. It may look drab but it really does translate nicely on the skin.

All in all, this is a good range of shades. I am just not drawn to them as much as last year's because I think I've seen many of these shades before. However, there are some stand-out ones like Earthly, Aurora, Magnetic Attraction and Universal Appeal. These look muddy and with poor pigmentation when applied dry, so if you want the shades to pop, you need to foil them with a mixing medium. I mostly use Fix+ to dampen my stiff shader brush and apply accordingly.

The Shades Of U Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars
