MAC Casual Colour: Lip and Cheek Colour Pots Swatches, Review

Lip and Cheek Colour Pots in Keep It Casual, Evening Stroll

Evening Stroll

I was able to try a few of the Lip and Cheek Colour Pots from the new MAC Casual Colour Collection that came out in counters and stores yesterday, June 7, 2012. I am a huge fan of cream blushes and multi-purpose products ever since I've tried Stila Convertible Lip and Cheek Tints. This new product from MAC is along the same vein, albeit I believe there is more product in the MAC Lip and Cheek Colour Pots as compared to the Stila Convertible, as the latter is tiny. The Lip and Cheek Colour Pots are housed in the same containers as MAC's lip moisturizers. I was able to try out Evening Stroll, a beautiful violet cream, and Keep It Casual, which is described as a wine cream but applies a little red on my skin. Here are some swatches:

As you can see, they can look scary when swatched heavily (which is probably what I'm going to do when I apply them on the lips), but they morph into light, lit-from-within shades when blended into the skin.

They are as sticky as the Stila Convertible, so they are quite tacky to apply and blend on the skin. This is the reason why I use a brush with a round head that is not too flimsy to apply these, as the dense head easily applies the product on the skin and buffs it into the skin for that blended, natural look. I use my Coastal Scents kabuki-on-a-stick for applying MAC's Lip and Cheek Colour Pots, and they work perfectly together:

Kabuki-on-a-stick (leftmost)

Another reason why I don't like to use my fingers to apply this product is that it feels sticky on the skin (like some sticky food that you're dying to wipe off your fingers right away), and also, it's unsanitary to dip fingers over and over into the pot. With the brush, I just get the right amount of product to apply on my cheeks without wasting excess product. I use a lipbrush when I want to apply this on my lips.

As with most cream products, this does not last on the skin as long as a powder blush. However, if I set it with a highlight powder or any translucent powder, I can prolong its staying power.

I am not a fan of convertible lip products, so I will most likely use this only as a cheek colour, except if I am really hard-pressed to find a lipgloss or something. The formula as I said is a little tacky, but I think it does last a little longer than my other cream blushes precisely because of the sticky factor.

All in all, I am liking these, mostly because I am a sucker for cream blushes. I love the natural, lit-from-within glow that cream blushes provide. They are perfect for summer because they don't make you look too made-up, unlike powder blushes. I like Evening Stroll a lot because it looks scary in the pot but it's such a nice violet flush on the cheeks (and the lips). I will be doing a look using this soon.
