Stila Jewel Eye Shadow in Opal
I was able to try Stila's new breed of eye color called Jewel Eye Shadow. Just like its name, the shadow deposits sequin-like sparkle on the lids to kick your eye makeup up a notch. It has a blend of pigment, binder and shimmering pearl that is buildable according to your preference.
The product feels squishy and bouncy, just like those cream shadows that a lot of brands have come up of late, the ones in pots like the Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadows. Instead of pots though, these are housed in pans and operate just like regular eye shadows, although they're fluffier, bouncier, and almost like a cream. I believe you can also use this wet. They have really intense shimmer, so I think this would work best if used in small doses or when used for nighttime looks.
I tried the Opal shade and I think this is a great white for highlighting the inner corners of the eyes. This would also be a great way to highlight the center of your lid if you have really dark or smokey eyes going on, just to counter the darkness. I use this on my inner corners and I loved the way it seems to perk up the eyes and make them look more awake. I want to try the other shades out, but Opal is a very versatile shade and is a staple in my makeup stash for highlighting.
Pros: has a nice, fluffy texture, may be used wet, high shimmer, great for highlighting, applies well and has decent pigmentation when used dry.
Cons: must be used sparingly to avoid a shimmer-fest
The Shades Of U Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The Jewel Eye Shadow retails for $20 each and is available at stilacosmetics.com, ULTA and Sephora stores nationwide.
