OPI Summer 2012: The Amazing Spider-Man Collection Swatches and Review

OPI is coming up with its 2012 summer collection called The Amazing Spider-Man.  It features six limited edition nail lacquers and a new Shatter, inspired by Sony Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man. It opens in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012.

The shades are supposed to depict the dark and foreboding yet exciting flavor of the movie. I have five of the seven shades, and here are my thoughts about them.

Just Spotted the Lizard

Just Spotted the Lizard is supposed to be OPI's answer to Chanel Peridot. While I do have Peridot, I have not swatched these two side by side. However, I can say that OPI Just Spotted the Lizard is a very close cousin of Peridot:

Chanel Peridot

So close that if you don't want to spend $26 plus tax on a Chanel nail lacquer, then Just Spotted The Lizard is your polish. It is a beautiful duo-chrome greenish-gold shade, and it reflects green or gold depending on which angle you look at it. This is a beautiful shade and I bet will be the star of this collection.

Number One Nemesis

So OPI is also coming up with a shade that is a dupe of Chanel Graphite. Seeing a pattern? I definitely see one but if the OPI versions are better in quality (and less expensive, of course!), then I for one would definitely look into the alternatives. Anyways, Number One Nemesis is a beautiful metallic greenish grey with light-reflective shimmer, which in theory should be similar to Graphite, but they're not 100% dupes. I think that Number One Nemesis is a tad darker:

Chanel Graphite

In the swatches, you can see that Chanel is more reflective than OPI, so they are not as close dupes as Peridot and Just Spotted the Lizard. Nonetheless, I love having both in my collection.

Your Web or Mine?

I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of this one. Nice color but waaay too frosty for my taste. Too streaky as well.

Call Me Gwen-Ever

with flash

Call Me Gwen-Ever is probably my top fave out of the polishes I've tried from this collection, and it's orange! The reason this is different from other oranges I've tried is that this doesn't have yellow undertones that make my already warm skintone look dirty. It has a coral-red undertone that I really love, plus it is a dusty shade of orange. Super love this!

Into the Night

Into the Night is a deep metallic blue frost that again has that frosty look, but is not as streaky as Your Web or Mine?. It is a beautiful hue so I am liking this a lot better than Your Web.

All in all, I am really liking this collection. I love the Chanel Peridot Dupe (Just Spotted the Lizard), and the somewhat similar to Chanel Graphite (Number One Nemesis). My most favorite one of all has got to be Call Me Gwen-Ever. I never thought I could love an orange polish. Ever.

Formula is great. It didn't give me any problems except with Your Web or Mine?. I really feel that polish is a dud. It is really very unattractive to my eyes.

Obviously, my recommendations are the three ones I like. Even if you already have Chanel Peridot and Graphite, I suggest getting Just Spotted the Lizard and Number One Nemesis as well, just because in my experience, OPI is lightyears ahead of Chanel when it comes to nail polish formula and staying power.

I like this Spider-Man collection a lot better than the Minnie Mouse collection. Really nice shades and the formula is really good.

This limited edition promotion will be available beginning May 2012 at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $8.50 ($9.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Great post as always :) I'm definitely getting going to pick up Just Spotted The Lizard and Number One Nemesis when they come out. They are so close to the Chanel ones and a whole lot cheaper :)

Hi Scientist! Good choices; the formula is great and they're very similar to Chanel's iconic shades.
