Stages of Beauty Harmony Line: Treatment Cream, Cleanser and Scrub Review

Harmony scrub, cleanser and treatment cream

I have been given a chance to test the Stages of Beauty Skincare, specifically the Harmony line. The founder, Jasmina Aganovic, is a MIT-trained chemical and biological engineer, and she developed the brand after noticing that many skincare products didn't educate consumers as to who should be using them and why. Aganovic noticed in her research that there are differences in the skin at distinct ages. This is why she developed a skincare line based on the needs of the skin at certain ages.

Thus, Stages of Beauty brand differentiates itself through its "skincare by age" philosophy. It posits the idea that the skin's needs are not the same at every stage in a person's life. While most anti-aging products focus on reducing visible signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles Stages of Beauty takes into account the rat at which the body's biological and hormonal changes occur and their impact on the skin through time.

Having said that, I was able to try one of the brands age-specific lines. The Harmony line is for women in their 30s. It puts additional focus on promoting the skin's natural ability to exfoliate and regenerate new skin cells while supporting collagen and elastin.

The products were prettily packaged! There were some fake rose petals in the box like a play on the logo of the brand. The products were nestled in this nest of shredded paper and they really look very nice, especially the treatment cream that came in the cylinder box.

Here are my thoughts on them.

The cleanser felt weird upon contact on the skin. It felt like lotion actually. I thought it was too emollient to get the job done, but I was surprised! After rinsing, I really felt my skin was clean and refreshed. The lotiony feeling really moisturized my face, but the filmy feel dissipates after rinsing to create this really nice, refreshed effect. The ingredients are: Monk's Pepper Berry Extract, Licorice and Mulberry Root Extract and Evening Primrose and Meadowfoam Seed Oils. These last mentioned ingredients probably contributed to the floral scent and the oilier texture.

SRP: $$29.99 for 120 ml.

The scrub is my favorite out of these three products. I use it at least twice a week, and I really feel that my skin is being sloughed off of dead skin cells, revealing a brighter, more even complexion. What I like about this scrub is the granules. They are the perfect size for me - not too huge and coarse, but not too tiny and therefore useless. They scrub my skin gently and I like the feel on my skin - they don't hurt when I rub against my face, but I really feel they're working on it. The liquid base also feels really good - it sort of moisturizes the skin because unlike other scrubs I've tried, this does not leave my skin tight and dry.

SRP: $34.99 for 60 ml.

The first thing I noticed about the product is the scent. It does come scented, but it's a light floral scent and is not cloying at all. The ingredients are: Monk's Pepper Berry Extract, Prickly Pear Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Algae & Seaweeds extract and a peptide blend. The brand claims that it prevents collagen and elastin degradation, reduces the appearance of fine line and wrinkles and brightens skin tone and evens complexion. I can't say much about the collagen, elastin and wrinkle claims because I have not used this long enough to see a profound difference. However, I do see that it brightened the skin in the morning and evens out the skintone a bit. Nothing drastic, but at least it didn't make my skin break out which is my utmost concern.

SRP: $52.99 for 30 ml, $74.99 for 50 ml.

All in all, this is a solid skincare trio to try if you want to see if the "skincare by age" philosophy will work for you. The Stages of Beauty offers four different age-specific lines:

- The RADIANCE line is for women in theirs 20s, focuses on preventative care, repairing and protecting skin against environmental damages and free radicals.

-The HARMONY line is for women in their 30s, puts an additional focus on promoting the skin's natural ability to exfoliate and regenerate new skin cells while supporting collagen and elastin.

-The ELEGANCE line is for women in their 40s, puts an additional focus on regaining the skin's elasticity, firmness and tone.

-The Grace line is for women in their 50s++, puts an additional focus on hydration, restoration of the skin's surface immunity, and balancing the effect of hormones on the skin.
