MAC Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation Swatches and Review

Shades 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

This review has long been overdue, I apologize! The reason for this delay was that I committed a number of mistakes while testing this product out, which I shall enumerate below.

This is a review on the MAC Matchmaster SPF15 foundation that came out on September 22nd of this year. It has medium, buildable coverage with a demi-matte finish, and it was specifically made to adapt to your own skintone, kind of like an "intelligent" kind of foundation. It has a spectrum of 14 shades, and MAC states that the range is very simple that they opted to do away with the NC or NW numbering system.

What I like about this foundation is that it also comes in a sanitary pump, just like my Pro Longwear foundation, but a bit taller. The glass container with the black cap is typical MAC, and it looks very simple yet sleek and classy.

Here are some swatches of the shades I have:

Wearing Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15 in Shade 3

The first mistake I did was to mix shades 3 and 6, and I immediately disliked the effect. Since I was new to this numbering system, I really didn't know what shade I was in Matchmaster. The effect looked very dull and flat that I almost gave up on this foundation. I should have known that my exact shade was 3, which is the equivalent of NC30 which is my shade. It looked MUCH better after I used only Shade 3.

This product has buildable medium coverage, and it feels quite light on the skin. Since it is medium coverage, this might not be for you if you have a lot of blemishes to hide, although this paired with a good concealer worked okay for me. It works great in tandem with the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

The second mistake was to attribute my zit to this product. I thought that this had broken me out, and stopped using it altogether. Then I tried using it a couple of weeks later and it didn't break me out anymore. I guess it was just a coincidence the last time?

What I like about this foundation is that it didn't feel like I had a mask on. It gave medium buildable coverage and my makeup still looked like SKIN, not a caked-on mess. It also gave a really nice, flawless finish. This does not accentuate pores, nor does it melt off the face in a few hours. Coupled with a good primer, this will last you 7-8 hours.

My gripe however is the finish itself. Even if it looks flawless, it looks - flat. At least on my skin. It didn't give a beautiful radiance to my skin like my Chanel Mat Lumiere, even though it is supposed to be a soft matte as well. It is easy to remedy however by adding some highlighter or applying a beauty powder, but I don't like adding another step to my foundation routine. I don't know if it's just the shade I am using (Shade 3), but I researched and it seems like it is the best match for NC30.

All in all, this is a decent foundation, especially if you have nailed your shade. I will continue to use this as this gives a flawless finish, but I will add a beauty powder or an all-over radiance like those from Bare Escentuals, just to re-create an ethereal look.
