Illamasqua Magenta Muse Collection Part 2: Lipstick and Sheer Lipgloss Swatches and Review

Here are my thoughts on and swatches of the Illamasqua Magenta Muse Collection lipsticks and sheer lipglosses. Also check out my Illamasqua Magenta Muse Collection Part 1: Cream Pigment, Pure Pigment and Liquid Metal Swatches and Review

Lipsticks:

First of all, I am drawn to the packaging: I love the very simple yet classy black square tubes. The casing feels heavy and durable and does not feel cheap or flimsy.

The lipsticks have different textures: one is matte (but not a true, stark matte, more of a soft, satiny one), and the other is iridescent. Test is the matte pinky beige that looks like a great neutral for most skintones. I like the texture of this one a lot. It is not the usual, very drying mattes. It is in fact very creamy, glides like a dream on the lips, and pigmented. Underworld is an iridescent orchid violet that for some reason reminded me of MAC's Violetta, although they are not dupes of each other since Underworld is more purple. It gives a cool sheen, sort of silver but not too much, although it applies evenly and very buildable- from light to really opaque.

I like the fact that Illamasqua included a neutral but at the same time threw in a lipstick with such a standout color and finish. I love pairing Underworld with Tantrum Sheer Lipgloss. This tandem does pack a mean punch!

Lipglosses:

Top: Tantrum
Bottom: Electrify

Tantrum, Electrify

Can you see that glorious sheen in Tantrum? I love it! It's a deep violet with that beautiful silvery or cool light pink sheen. I may look scary in the tube but it morphs into a beautiful purpley-plum with light pink sheen on the lips. Electrify is a nice baby pink sheen that I would use to tone down darker lippies.  The squeeze tube is something that I would still have to get used to, though- I am used to doe-foot applicator and brush-tipped wands, so I am still on the fence as to how I feel about the packaging.  The product itself is something else, though- very rich, pigmented, applies a little tacky at first but becomes less sticky the longer it sits on your lips.  The candy scent is a nice treat a well.

All in all, I am liking these lip products from Illamasqua, and their tandem is great.  They feel nice and soft on the lips and for someone like me who has sensitive lips, the formula did not give me the dreaded burn on my upper lips.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.75 out of 5 stars
