TEMPTU Airbrush Tanning: Summer Skin Kit Review
Monday, May 23, 2011
Summer awaits, my friends! Time for sunblock, bronzers, sunkissed, dewy skin. However, we have been inundated with warnings from all over the news and media that tanning beds and frying thyself under the rays of the sun are cardinal sins against the health of your skin. And yet, a lot of people would love to sport bronze goddess-looks for the summer. What to do?
TEMPTU launches an innovative at-home tanning system called TEMPTU Air Pod Tanning. It claims to achieve professional airbrush tanning results at home using the TEMPTU airbrush makeup airpod system that is sold in Sephora stores. Not only can the system deliver flawless makeup, it can also deliver self-tanning results in as little as three hours. I was given the opportunity to try the TEMPTU Air Pod Tanning system. I already did a Video Review of the TEMPTU Airbrush Makeup System, so I was furnished with the Summer Skin Kit containing three air pods that makeup the Tanning system: The Tan Prep, Face Tan, and Bronzer in Warm Glow.

Temptu Airbrush Tanning Kit: Airpods in Tan Prep, Face Tan, and Bronzer
Tan Prep airpod
Important Note: unlike regular TEMPTU airpods, the Tan Prep and Face Tan pods have small rubber stoppers to keep the product from oxidizing. It is important that the stoppers are opened during use to allow product to flow, and closed when done to prevent oxidation. Bronzer in Warm Glow air pod does not have the rubber stopper and is to be used just like other TEMPTU makeup air pods.
Face Tan airpod
The TEMPTU Air Pod Tanning System is a two-step process with an additional bronzer makeup thrown in for a faster bronze look:
Step One: Prep the skin with the Air pod TAN PREP. It moisturizes while removing dead skin cells with a gentle exfoliating blend of lactic and glycolic acids. This primes skin for an even and flawless sunless tan. (Ingredients: Salicylic acid, Aloe, Citrus Peel Extract)
Step Two: Apply Air pod FACE TAN for a buildable tan with naturally derived DHA for buildable, natural results in as soon as three hours. (Ingredients: Pure melanin, DHA, Chamomile Oil)
Step Three: For immediate color, apply the Air pod BRONZER in Warm Glow, an oil-free airbrushable bronzer, for an immediate bronzed glow that will not affect the self-tanner. (Ingredients: Water, Dimethicone, and silicone)
NOTE: Remember to open the rubber stoppers in TAN PREP and FACE TAN pods to allow product flow, and to close the stoppers after use to prevent oxidation of the product.
My Experience:
I do not really self-tan, so I roadtested this system on one-half of my inner forearm. I airbrushed Tan Prep on my skin and let the formula sit on my skin for 30-60 seconds. I gently blotted my skin with tissue to take off the excess product.
Next, I airbrushed Face Tan over the Tan Prep. I didn't see anything! It looked the same. I thought the product was bogus and didn't work. I should have read the instructions properly. Tanning is not immediate and I would see results in three hours at the earliest.
I tried Bronzer in Warm Glow on my face and I am loving it! It is a pretty bronzed, sheer golden glow with shimmer. I used it on the hollows of my cheeks to contour my face. I will be posting some looks using the Bronzer. This is great to use with the airpod foundations, Soft Peach blush and the highlighter.
Results after three hours:
Left side of forearm: no airbush tanning; Right side of forearm: airbrushed with Tan Prep and Face Tan (no flash)

I was swatching other products on my arm when I saw the tan on my inner forearm. It did work after all! It was not orange and did look like I was out in the sun. It is more of a golden glow rather than an orange cast. It has been 16 hours, and I've already showered and scrubbed my skin, but the tan is still there. There is no odd smell and my skin looks normal - not very dry or oily or flaky.
I see uneven patches and that's maybe an error in application - it should be even and cover all spots. This product is recommended for the face, neck, chest and decollete. I am not sure why this is not recommended for the extremities like the arms and legs. I mean, if you're going to do self-tanning, might as well do it on all parts of the body or you will look quite funny with a tanned face and chest and pale arms and legs!
Pros: natural-looking, non-orange tan that lasts a while, easy to use and apply
Cons: application needs to be even and should cover all spots; expensive ($200 for the compressor and $75 for the Summer Skin Kit); recommended only for the face, neck and decollete.
All in all, if you love to tan but are scared of the health risks in tanning beds and sunbathing, and yet you still want an airbrushed tan, you can try TEMPTU's Summer Skin kit. All three air pods mentioned are in the kit for $75.00. Individually, Tan Prep is $30, Face Tan is $45 and Bronzer is $35.
