Skincare Review: Dr. Imber's Youth Corridor Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum

Text on the back of the box

Dr. Gerald Imber is one of the world’s leading plastic surgeons with decades of experience in plastic surgery and facial rejuvenation, and is known as the plastic surgeon to the stars. Dr. Imber has done not only countless of nips and tucks, but he has also shared a vast wealth of information on anti-aging. Some interesting tips include avoiding frequent long-distance jogging. Dr. Imber opines:

The skin rises and falls, and as the foot impacts, it continues to fall for another fraction of a second, then bounces up again. The elastic fibers in the skin absorb the repeated trauma until they eventually cease to fully bounce back and ultimately stretch a bit, causing laxity of the skin. The combination of excessive loss of fat padding on the face and accelerated loss of elasticity have a decidedly negative impact on one’s appearance. Jogging bras are universally worn for comfort and support against the tearing effect of the constant trauma of bouncing. Facial skin suffers the same fate, and yet it goes unprotected.

Interesting, even if you are skeptical about it!

Dr. Imber not only gives patients and clients tidbits on skincare and anti-aging, he also has developed a full line of skin care products at http://www.youthcorridor.com/.

I was given an opportunity to try the star product of his line, the Antioxidant Boost™, a unique serum that incorporates the natural antioxidant melatonin along with high concentrations of vitamins C and E to dramatically increase the antioxidant properties of vitamins C and E alone.

The product's full name is Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum with 10% Vit. C, Vit. E and Melatonin ($125). Ascorbic acid (Vit C) needs to be at a 10% concentration or more to boost collagen synthesis, but even then, Vit C tends to be unstable. Dr. Imber claims that he has discovered the perfect substance to pair with Vit C, and it is Melatonin. He claims that the combination of potent Vit C, E and Melatonin is the most effective way to push antioxidants into the skin.

Dr. Imber expounds on this unique formula on his website:

Youth Corridor Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum is a revolutionary high-performance complex formulated with 10% Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Melatonin, which work synergistically in a single skincare product to neutralize free radical damage and protect against oxidative stress. This combination is a potent defense against inflammation and enhances the skin’s natural photoprotective response. It stimulates collagen and elastin production, strengthening the support structure of healthy skin necessary for a more youthful appearance.

I have been using this product for several weeks now. If you have purchased this, keep in mind to open this very slowly. My own bottle lost about half of the product because the shipping process probably shook the bottle and caused the substance in the bottle to have a sudden change in pressure and it overflowed, kinda like when you shake a soda bottle and gas expands when you open the cap. I lost about $75 in precious serum drops!

At first, the substance stung my skin, but I was expecting it because my other ascorbic acid serums used to sting as well. The vitamin E probably made this concoction more moisturizing as it glided more like cleansing oil rather than acid on my face. I use this after cleansing my face at night and before I apply my retinoids and moisturizing night cream or emu oil.

I have been using this for several weeks now and I do notice a brighter complexion, although I cannot vouch for any other claims from the company on this product. However, I will forever include vitamin C serum in my skincare regimen because I know just how important it is in fighting free radicals. The combination of hormone therapy, deep cleansing using my Clarisonic facial brush, my retinoid regimen and vitamin C serum overall helped me have the best skin I've probably had in years. My pores are visibly smaller, my complexion is brighter and hyperpigmentation from acne scars has diminished considerably.

I guess the one big downside of this product is the price. It retails for $125 and you can find Vitamin C serums in the market for as low as $20. However, you can always argue that this particular formula is different since it has melatonin, which is a known powerful antioxidant. I can only say that this product worked well with my skin and helped reveal a more even skin texture with fewer hyperpigmentation. Whatever brand you decide to use, always remember to include Vitamin C serum in your skincare regimen to combat free radicals and to help reveal overall younger, brighter skin.
