MAC Surf, Baby: Eye Shadow, Crushed Metallic Pigment and Powerpoint Eye Pencil Swatches and Review

Because of that huge Blogger blackout yesterday and today, my blog posts on the Surf Baby My Paradise Cheek Powder, lipsticks, lipglasses, Skinsheen Bronzer sticks, Suntints SPF 20, and Studio Careblend/Pressed powder have disappeared. Blogger said they should be back up soon, but I am not holding my breath!

EDITED TO ADD: My Surf, Baby posts are now back up. For Skinsheen Bronzer Sticks, Bronzing Powder and Studio Careblend/Pressed Powder swatches and review, CLICK HERE. Do check out MAC Surf, Baby: My Paradise Cheek Powder Swatches and Review for my thoughts on the new cheek powder. Here is a continuation of the Surf Baby Series, this time on the eye shadows, crushed metallic pigments, and Powerpoint eye pencil.

Eye Shadows:

Swatches and review after the jump

Short Shorts, Swell Baby, Surf USA

Short Shorts

Short Shorts, Surf USA, Swell Baby

The eyeshadows for this collection are noticeably more pigmented than those of the previous collections like Quite Cute. They glide easily on the skin and the colors are rich. Short Shorts is a nice frosty
white champagne. It is a little too frosty for me, though, so I apply it sparingly and only as a highlighter for matte or low-sheen shadows. Surf USA is a pretty frosted teal. I have a lot of teals so I will do a comparison swatch-a-thon soon. This is great for summer and even if you don't use teal shadows on the lid, you can always use this on your lashline (upper or lower) for a nice pop of color. Swell Baby is my favorite, a mid-tone grey in the satin formula. Love it, great for the crease and outer V. The pigmentation is buildable so you can apply it lightly or you can go all out for a smokey look.

I will be getting Saffron and Sun Blonde when these come to our shores, I heard by next week? All in all, the eyeshadows are better performers than those from the past few collections. If you like bright, fun colors, Surf USA is for you. If you are more into neutrals, Swell Baby and Saffron (not technically a neutral, but you can play with it to match your needs) are good choices.

Gold Bronze in Surf the Ocean

Surf the Ocean

Summer Stash

This is a curious bunch of pigments. These are not your usual MAC pigments but they are, as their names suggest, quite metallic. They are not for the timid and shy because some of them are frosty, and some of them are just pure metal in look, they are traffic stoppers. Perfect for a night out in the town or if you want something to spruce up your usual eye look.

Here are the descriptions:

Summer Stash
Light pink champagne (Frost)
Light white pearl (Frost)
Light violet with silver pearl (Frost)
Brown bronze with gold pearl (Frost)

Surf The Ocean
Frosty platinum (Frost)
Light yellow green (Frost)
Gold bronze (Frost)
Dirty graphite with silver pearl (Frost)

I tried the gold bronze in Surf the Ocean on the lower lid today, and a dark brownish brown on the outer lid, and it looked amazing. The gold bronze shade really popped. The texture of the gold bronze pigment is soft, mushy, almost moist. This is the reason why it was quite easy to apply on the lid without foiling it (adding liquid such as water or mixing medium).

Powerpoint Eye Pencil

Gilded White

Gilded White

Gilded White is a yellow white frost that is great as an inner corner/tearduct highlighter. You can also try to use it on the waterline, although I read reviews saying that it is not as good on the waterline as it is on the tearducts. I will try it out and will update this review. Perfect for that browbone highlight and on the inner corners to create a refreshed look.

All in all, I am liking the eye products from this collection. I like the color payoff and the easy application. I am also impressed that the Crushed Metallic Pigments are likewise easy to apply without creating too much fallout. My favorites would have to be Swell Baby and Surf USA shadows, Surf the Ocean Crushed Metallic Pigments and the Gilded White Powerpoint Pencil.

The Shades Of U Rating for the products in this post: 4.5 out of 5 stars
