Zoya Summer 2011: Mod Matte Nail Polish Swatches and Review

I am back! I am sorry I have not posted in days, but there's something cooking for all of you guys that is just beyond exciting, so watch out for it!

Here are some swatches of the tiny but funky collection from Zoya called Mod Matte. It is their summer offering of matte, bright colors. I usually don't wear mattes and these are not really my favorite in terms of formula, but I was surprised with Zoya's new mini-collection of mattes. I sometimes find mattes a little bit too edgy or severe on the eyes, but these new colors are funky but in a happy sort of way. I thought I really wouldn't like this trio, but to my surprise, I did!

Mitzi

Mitzi is a matte lime-green that is just very spring-y and pretty. For some reason, I thought that mattes would be more difficult to apply (I have a few matte polishes so I don't know where I got this idea), but this formula is pretty easy to apply, smooth and was opaque in two coats, but I opted to do three. The uneven ridges on my third nail bed was of my own doing when I stupidly drilled my nailbed when I was supposed to just buff and trim my cuticles. Duh! Let's just say that imperfections are more noticeable on matte polishes, so make sure to buff your nails and use a ridge filler.

Lolly

Lolly is such a feminine color. It is a magenta cream with a matte finish that screams summer. Would be a fun beach shade or even during those fun summer nights out in the town. It would also make a great pedicure color for sandal season.

Phoebe

Phoebe is probably going to be a favorite of those who despise flat mattes. This is an electric blue with shimmer in a matte finish. You can still see the shimmer shining through the matte glaze. It reminds me of everything associated with water- pools, blue ocean waters, you name it - so much so that this polish lifts up my mood. I also like the shimmer aspect because you can wear mattes with some depth to them and not just flat mattes.

All in all, as I said in the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised with this collection. Matte is my least favorite formula next to frosts, but the colors in this collection really attracted me. They are bright, funky, obnoxious even, but just perfect for that wild summer party or a night out and you want your nails to be the center of attraction.

Pros: smooth formula, bright funky colors, easy application

Cons: mattes emphasize your nailbed imperfections, not as long-lasting as regular polishes.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
