Reviva Labs Makeup Primer Review
Thursday, March 3, 2011
I was able to try one of Reviva Labs' most popular products, the makeup primer. I've heard a lot about this primer so I was glad to have had the opportunity to try it. The first thing I noticed is that the price is so much more affordable than other primers in the market. It retails for $19.50 for a 1-oz bottle, almost half the price of other brands with the same amount.

Like many makeup primers, it is dimethicone-based. However, it is not identical to the others out there. I applied Reviva Labs and Smashbox dimethicone-based primers side by side on the back of my hand, and they felt different. Reviva has a certain moisturizer feel to it, a certain tackiness. On the Smashbox side, the feel is a lot slicker, more slippery, drier. I like Reviva's tacky, moisturizer-like finish because it reacts well with my makeup, whether it's mineral makeup or liquid foundation. It makes the makeup finish look more supple. With its other ingredients like Vitamin D3, Vitamin A Palmitate, Squalene and olive oil, it makes the skin look hydrated and healthy, and yet the dimethicone ingredient helps to fill in lines, reduce the appearance of pores, blur imperfections, and just help the makeup look as flawless as possible. The tackiness of the product (not super-tacky, though, it just feels like moisturizer on the skin) helps the makeup adhere more to the skin and make it last longer. The Coenzyme Q10 ingredient also gives anti-oxidant properties.

I think the best part about this product is that it didn't break me out. I have extremely acne-prone skin, but this has been very forgiving and gentle. Reviva claims that this product is non-comedogenic or won't clog pores, and given its gentle effect on my skin, it might as well be. It is fragrance-free which I love because I cannot stand strong scents in my cosmetics.
All in all, this is a great product and I highly recommend it, especially if you like dimethicone-based primers and would like to try one that is more affordable compared to the big-name brands. This works just as well or even better than the best-known brands, and the moisturizer-feel to it is also a plus in my book.
