Swatches and review after the jump
Here is Clarins' offering for Spring 2011- a burst of spring colors in a sophisticated palette. It's called Neo Pastels Eye Colour and Liner Palette. It comes in six eye shadow shades in coordinating shades of pink, purple and brown, and one matte black liner. It's a great palette for spring, and the shiny compact and the plush red velvet case lend a sophisticated feel to it that is typical of Clarins.
As you can see, the colors are muted, watercolor-like, soft - just perfect for spring. This is not your typical uber-pigmented palette. These have light to medium pigmentation, maybe because too much color payoff will make the lighter shades look chalky. The three shadows on the top row would make great highlight and lid colors. If you want the hues to pop more, I would suggest you apply a colored base under the shadows.
I frequently use the browns and purples for my everyday eye look. The soft shades are perfect for a daytime look or office eye makeup. I like to place the light lavender one on the inner corners of my eyes to make them look more refreshed and awake. If I want a deeper-colored crease, I apply the liner or a deeper brown.
It also comes in a double-edged applicator that I usually don't care very much for, but a sponge-applicator would work well with these softly pigmented shades as it usually picks up more product than a brush. If you are looking for rich, pigmented shadows, these are not for you as the colors are quite soft. However, if you are specifically looking for spring makeup - soft, light, airy, blendable - these are for you.
