Rock & Republic Blushes Swatches and Review
Friday, January 7, 2011
I finally have the chance to post reviews and swatches of my Rock and Republic blushes. I've had these for a couple of months now, but after the long holidays, it's just now that I've finally had time to do this. They originally sell for $40 a pop, but I got them for real cheap during the R&R website half-off sale with the $25 referral and $1 shipping. I think I got four of these for $32 and the other three for $35. It was a great deal. As you can see, the packaging is very ornate, and shall I say, excessive? They come in really sturdy round carton boxes to protect the flamboyant compact. The compact itself is beautiful, very hefty and heavy, and the logo of R&R is proudly on it. Unless you really love the blushes, these are not good for travel because the blushes are huge and bulky. But I admit they are beautiful - they are outlandishly packaged and speak of luxury.

I'm sure you probably know from a lot of reviews online that these blushes are really smooth, buttery and hella pigmented. Let me repeat: hella pigmented. As you can see in the swatches, they look pigmented, and very finely milled, jet-milled I should say. They apply beautifully with a light hand because you don't want to end up with clown cheeks. For example, Immoral is one of the most beautiful matte corals, but it can be too bright if you put too much effort. I use my MAC 136 brush, a beautiful paddle-shaped brush that deposits just a whisper of color on the cheeks for a lit-from within effect:
The paddle-shaped head prevents it from depositing too much color, and the soft, pliable hairs are perfect for pigmented blushes. If you don't have this brush, a skunk or duo fiber brush or even a regular blush brush would work, as long as you apply it with a light hand.
On to my favorites. That would be Seduce, a beautiful shimmery plummy brown, Immoral, Tease, a light shimmery grey-lavender, and Shameless. It looks very dark brown in the swatch but when applied with a light hand it's a gorgeous bronze-y blush that warms the skin. I also like Lust which is like a coppery-coral. X-Rated is a very pigmented matte fuchsia, so like Immoral, a light hand is needed. Foreplay looks more like a nice bronzer or contour powder to me. But all of these are very beautiful and pigmented, and texture is divine.
Too bad I don't have the cult favorite Call Me, but if it's the counterpart of Orgasm, I'm fine without it because I prefer NARS Deep Throat to Orgasm any day of the week.
