Caviahue Thermal Mud Review
Thursday, September 30, 2010
I love mud masks. Mask? Masque? Whatever. For the sake of this review, I will use the more ornate-looking word "masque". I have acne-prone skin and thus I feel that I have the pressing need to deep-clean my pores regularly. I have tried different masks and recently, I have had the opportunity to try Caviahue Thermal Mud from the AcquaEssentials online store of spa products. AcquaEssentials is a portal to a wide variety of thermal-based cosmetics. Most of their products originate from the most distinctive spas in Europe and Latin America. It makes these products available exclusively online for us international consumers.
The Caviahue Thermal Mud's main ingredients flow through the inside of a volcano located in a remote spot in the Patagonian Andes (Argentina). The mud is virtually unpolluted and ecologically balanced. This Thermal Mud, formulated with thermal water from the Copahue volcano and highly mineralized organic mud from the bed of the Caviahue lagoons, offer rich benefits to your skin.
The product is so rich and thick that a substantial amount clings to the lid!
What does it do? Have dull skin with uneven skintone? If you do, I highly recommend this product. I just love how poreless my skin (especially my nose!) looks after I use this masque. I also like that it provides a balanced blend of minerals from Caviahue thermal water and Caviahue volcanic clay.
MY TAKE: I had a major bout of hormonal acne this year and so I feel that I need to take out all the gunk from my skin to prevent more flare-ups. I keep this product in the fridge and I love the cool, refreshing feel of the mud on my face. I apply the mud on the entire face except the eye socket and lip areas. I immediately feel the tightening all over my face; in fact, I could actually see the masque literally tightening the skin. I leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and when I look in the mirror before I wash it off with warm water using the facial sponge conveniently included in the box, I could see dark dots on the masque. That means the masque has drawn out impurities, blackheads, and oil! Yuck! Yes, you could actually see the masque working. After rinsing, you will actually see that your pores have shrunk in size and your skin tone looks more even and smooth. I highly recommend this for those with normal to oily skin, especially those who are prone to blackheads, whiteheads, and large pores.
There is a slight scent in the masque that is not cloying or strong. This was probably added to mask the smell of the mud. I may be wrong, but that is my perception. At any rate, it didn't bother me, as I was too busy noticing the tightening of my pores while I looked at my mud-caked face in the mirror.
It may be a bit pricey at $75 a pop, but it comes in a HUGE tub and you only need enough to cover your face (and neck), so a little goes a long way.
All in all, I honestly like this mud masque. The fact that this is an organic product made with original thermal mud and thermal water from the springs of Patagonia makes it more special.
The Shades Of U Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
