OPI HongKong Collection and OPI Suede Nail Polish Swatches and Review

Here are some of the new OPI polishes I got from my fabulous neighborhood nail supply store. There are actually two great nail supply stores in my area. One sells nail polish a dollar more expensive than the other, but it's still cheap compared to Sally Beauty or ULTA. I got these OPI Hongkong collection polishes from that store for $5 each. The other store that sells OPI for $4 each doesn't have the HK collection yet. I got the Suedes at ULTA. Here are some swatches and my thoughts on them.

OPI You Don't Know Jacques! Suede- I am not a fan of matte nail polish, but I will try suedes because they are not flat-out mattes; they have pretty shimmer. I like this YDKJ variant a lot more than its matte counter part. The finish is very unique. I heard that the staying power of the suedes is not as good as regular polishes'. I also heard that a good base helps a lot, and since I change nail polish frequently, I don't get to see this baby chip.

OPI Russian Navy Suede - Eh. For some reason I had a really hard time cleaning this. The shimmer gets scattered all over the nails and fingers, and I am not too fond of the consistency. The color is pretty, though. One of the most unique blues I own.

OPI HongKong Collection

I am disappointed with this bunch. I didn't like a lot of the colors, and the ones I got were a bit streaky in application. However, there are clear winners in this collection, I give them that. Still, I was underwhelmed compared to my palpitating breathless anticipation of other collections from OPI and other brands. Here are the colors I liked and got:

OPI Jade is the New Black- This seems to be a bit more muted jade green in real life. The bright sun made it look more vivid than it really is. The color looks exactly like those on the jade-encrusted oriental room divider at my parents' house. Pretty color. This is three coats.

OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender - the best of them all in my opinion. This was the only color that really bewitched me. It's a lovely light lavender creme that has lots of blue undertones. It can pass for a blue-based pink, actually. Another 3-coater as it streaks a lot. The third coat evens things out. I even used this for another Konad attempt. Stay tuned.

Bling Dynasty - a warm yellow gold. It's okay, nothing spectacular. Too sheer for my taste, though. This is another 3-coater. I might wear it on the toes this summer as I prefer these kinds of colors for my pedicure. It makes the feet look especially clean and bright.

OPI Dim Sum Plum - Love the name, love the color. The color on the photo is a bit off. It is not as red-toned as it looks. It is more purple to my eyes, and it's very similar to Ate Berries In The Canaries from the OPI Spain Collection. I placed the bottles side by side and I could hardly tell them apart. This is my second favorite next to Lucky Lucky Lavender; however, as I had noted, it's not very unique.

As I said, I was underwhelmed, but the lone winner for me is Lucky Lucky Lavender. The others were okay, but nothing to write home about. The suedes looked much more interesting to my eyes.
