MAC In Lillyland Swatches and Review
Friday, January 8, 2010
I've had the chance to play with the funky, springy colors of the MAC Lillyland collection. I must say that I am loving them! They may look bright in the pots and tubes, but they actually apply on the skin sheer and subtle, but they are buildable as well, especially the cremeblend blushes. These are some pretty colors for the spring and summer.
CREMEBLEND BLUSHES
I was not a fan of the original MAC cream blushes because they were sticky, heavy, and broke me out terribly. These new cremeblend blushes however remind me so much of my favorite NARS cream blushes. They are hard in consistency in the pots unlike the old cream blushes that were soft and mushy. These are hard but when you swipe the surface with your finger, it's very easy to get a fair amount of product. It applies the product like a dream, glides like butter. It is not splotchy at all, I just love the finish! It gives a gorgeous, lit-from-within look. Check out the swatches to see for yourself. These are my new favorite cream blushes. I like to bring cream blushes for travel because you don't need a separate brush to apply them, you just need clean fingers. These are great to freshen up your makeup and to give a pop of color to sallow complexions.
Joie-de-Vivre will replace my old fave NARS cream blush in Cactus Flower in my makeup kit. In fact JDV reminds me so much of Cactus Flower in terms of color, application, texture and finish. It is a peachy coral that is so pretty and complements my skintone. It may look scary in the pot but it applies sheerly, and the thing about cream blushes is that they don't look like the color just "sits" on top of your skin, they really look lit-from-within. JDV is a sure winner for me.
So Sweet, So Easy is another winner! This would suit pale to medium skintones, and I want one for myself. It is a beautiful light yellow-pink that would give the most natural flush.
Optimistic Orange is a bright coral that is a tad too - err- orange for me. This would look great on the right skintone, though.
Florida is another one that caught my fancy- a bright fuchsia that looks amazing. A great spring and summer blush.
LIP GELEES:
I was never a fan of lip gelees as I found them too sheer for my taste. These new ones, however, appealed to me in the sense that in the tube, the colors were ridiculously bright, but worn they were just pretty, sheer, wearable. I liked some of the colors, precisely because they were bright.
Preppy is a blue-pink with blue pearl that I really liked. It looked too funky in the tube but sheers out into a nice, cool pink on the lips.
Resort Life is an off white with pink pearl that I don't care much for, because when worn, it just looks like a neutral sparkly mess on my lips without much color pay-off. May look better with a pigmented lipstick underneath, though.
Lush and Bright is a bright pink yellow-coral with pink pearl. I like peaches but too much coral is sometimes unflattering on my skintone. I have not tried this on my lips yet, but I am not optimistic. However, it might apply pretty and sheer, so I would not discount the fact that I might eventually like this.
Shift to Pink is a pretty light violet with silver pearl. This is my favorite along with Preppy. I love purple-based glosses.
PEARLMATTE FACE POWDER

I have not tried this yet on the face but I feel I will like it. I've never had a matte face powder/complexion enhancer before. Most of my face powders are glows and highlighters, so this is a new one for me. I like the very feminine, springy colors and presentation. I like that it has a yellowish highlighter color in it, kinda lights up the complexion I believe.
I'l post a look soon using this and will let you know what I think!
(Pearl Matte Eye Shadow review will be posted soon)
TECHNAKOHL LINER
Graphblack is one of my favorite black waterline liners. It is very easy to apply, gives a pretty good, pigmented line, and best of all, no need to sharpen and you can back2mac the plastic tube!
Purple Dash is an intense aubergine purple that would be great for pinks, purples, and even smokey looks. I love the unusual color- not too stark and intense like black, but lends an edgy factor to your eye looks.
PAINT POTS:
Rubenesque
Rubenesque on lid as base
Rubenesque is really lovely, a vibrant gold with peach reflects; it's my friend's ultimate favorite and it sure is gorgeous. This would look great with golds, browns, bronzes, and virtually any warm color.
Bare Study
Bare Study swatch: fifth from the left
Bare Study is a beautiful shimmery champagne that is excellent as a base, and can be used with any color. This reminds me of Baselight paint. I plan to use this under greens, yellows, browns, even plums.
Fresco Rose
Fresco Rose on the lid as base for eyeshadows
Fresco Rose: so pretty in pink! It's a lovely pink hue on the lids that is a perfect base for pinks, plums, purples, lilacs and everything in between. My favorite pink eyeshadow base ever.
NAIL LACQUERS
Coconut Ice is a light yellow-peach-pink that I might get because it is such a pretty color. Steamy is a hot pink that I might skip because I already have way too many pink nail lacquers.
All in all, I am really liking this collection. I highly recommend the cremeblend blushes, and of course, paint pots are great bases for your eyeshadows to lend a pop of color to your eye looks. Pearl Matte face powder might interest you too if you are interested in a unique face powder. If you only have to try one product from this collection, I believe it would be the cremeblend blush.

great review! I was in MAC the other day picking up some things from the all races collection, and I totally wasn't expecting to like this collection at all, but somehow it snuck up on me and I ended up getting the lush coral lip gelee. You've made me tempted to try the creme blushes. Like you, I didn't like MAC's old ones - I hadn't realised they had changed the formula.
Preppy and Shift to Pink look really pretty. Lush & Bright might work on my lips, though it looks more orange than coral to my eyes.
Thanks for your review and swatches ;)
Thanks for the swatches, i love this limited edition, it looks so cute
scarlettholly- Yeah, I believe they did change the formula of the creme blushes, because the old ones were tacky and sticky and broke me out. This new one has just the right texture.
Phyrra-you're welcome! Preppy and Shift to Pink would look great on you I bet, they're perfect with your skintone.
graphology- I agree, so sunshiny, right? ;-)
I really like Rubenesque, and it makes me not so scared of eyeshadow...I find it so intimidating, for some reason. Lipstick on the other hand, is my forte!!
