Earthen Glow Minerals High Definition Liquid Mineral Foundation Review

Perhaps most of you know that I mostly use mineral makeup because of how good it is to my skin. I love Earthen Glow Minerals' mineral foundation, and I've been using it regularly for the past year. Recently, however, I've been experimenting with liquid makeup because I wanted the finish liquid makeup provides, but I've been very wary of parabens and other unpronounceable ingredients in the foundation that can irritate my skin and cause blemishes. That is why it's just the perfect time to try Earthen Glow's new product, the High Definition Liquid Mineral Foundation. What makes it different from the other HD foundations sprouting up in the market today is that it is mineral-based, and it also has botanicals and cosmeceuticals that Earthen Glow claims can:

-Firm Skin
-Plump Fine Lines
-Combat visible signs of Aging

The company also describes the finish of the product as follows:

This liquid mineral-based foundation will give you a perfect full coverage matte finish that:

-Lasts all day
-Needs No touch ups
-Needs No Finishing Powder
-Ideal for all skin types
.

Well then, let's put it to the test, shall we?

Disclaimer: I will not be doing a review on its skincare claims because I have not used this product long enough to make a conclusion on this. I will be doing a review simply based on the finish, texture, coverage and staying power of the High Definition Liquid Mineral Foundation.

Above: Earthen Glow Minerals HD liquid mineral foundation blended into the skin. As you can see, it has a matte but very polished finish that evens out the skin.

I used the shade in Helena that looked a tad too dark on my skin, so I ordered the next lighter one in the golden shade of Claire. However, in the pictures and even in real life, Helena looked just right on my skintone.

The first thing I noticed about this product is that it is really thick. Hence, a little goes a long way! The first time I applied this, I used my Coastal Scents kabuki-on-a-stick (similar to Bare Escentuals Handy Buki brush) that I would regularly use with my BB creams, but it applied too much of the HD liquid mineral foundation. I used too much of the product and buffed heavily, which made my face look like a mask. I think the perfect brush for this product is a stippling or duo-fibre brush. I used my MAC 187 brush for this product, as well as my new EnKore Makeup's Stipple and Swirl brush (review coming up soon!), and the finish was amazing and absolutely flawless. It gives this matte finish that looks polished, it evens out the complexion and makes it look as blemish-free as possible. I applied Lumiere's face enhancer in Nectar, a finishing powder that gives this glowing radiance on the skin, and the combination was just amazing.

As you can see, the product evened out the skintone and it has really good coverage. It does not look too matte because as I'd mentioned, I used a radiance for a finishing powder, i.e., a somewhat glowy finishing powder that gives a dewy look. However, the HD liquid mineral foundation really made my skin look better than it really is, covered blemishes without looking cakey, and improved the overall appearance of the skin. As for staying power, it stayed all day on the face without need for touchups.

All in all, this is a great product. It really covers well, evens out the skintone, gives a flawless finish, and staying power is great. The clincher of course is the fact that it didn't break me out, yay! I guess the downside of this product is that if you don't like a matte finish, this might not be for you, but you can do what I did and just apply a radiant finishing powder to give that luminous, dewy look.

The Shades Of U rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Hmm, I'm almost interested in checking them out, but I can't figure out what shade I'd match to best: Zoe or Paige.

Have you tried their creme liners?
Paparrazi and Magnetic look nice :)

I LOVE the foundation on you! Must be one of my fav I've seen on you so far. Very natural looking!

Crystal- I agree, $25 is a bit expensive but compared to regular HD foundation like MUFE's, it's a steal. =D

Phyrra- the creme liners look beautiful, but haven't tried them yet. =)

Christiana- you're welcome! I used your technique in applying liquid foundation (half of the face first) because this product dries up real quick!

Shobe- I think somebody did that before and they loved it. I see no harm in trying it, sounds like a cool idea!

Therese- aww thanks! I really love this foundation. I like that it doesn't feel heavy at all. When I wear liquid foundation, it would feel to heavy and mask-like, so much so that I would wash it off as soon as I get home, but this one feels really light. I'll ask for the ingredient list and post on the blog.

I've been wondering about their mineral mousse - do you think it would have similar performance? I don't need anything quite as heavy at the HD stuff, but liquid sounds nice in the winter.

Emily- I do have the mousse and tried it on the back of my hand. You're right, it feels and applies lighter. Will post a review soon!

Awesome! If you have the ingredients handy, and can post those, that would be great!

Hi Aileen! I am waiting for your comparison on the mousse foundation and this HD one. I had a sample of the mousse and Helena matched me perfectly. I liked it a lot but am thinking of the HD too but I don't want to get a sample right now as the package would take too long (or get lost) since it's the Christmas rush. Is the mousse better?

Christiana and Nikki - I just posted a review of the mousse foundation, and I also gave a detailed comparison between the mousse and the HD. For the winter season, I pretty much prefer the mousse variant.
