Food Fest In Cali and Updates

I am so sorry for the lack of posts lately. I was out of town to celebrate my son's 6th birthday with relatives and friends in California at my in-law's house. It was an unbearably hot and humid day in SoCal last Saturday! It was even hotter than we were used to these days here in AZ. The worst part was that folks out there aren't used to turning on their A/C's in October, so it was really a tad uncomfortable for the most part of the day, until somebody thought of switching it on.

We hardly eat Filipino food here, so we thought of having a Filipino food feast for our son's party:

Woot! Pig roast! In the vernacular, it's called "lechon". It was SO good, the skin stayed crispy up till the following day. It wasn't soggy at all and the meat was leaner than most pig roasts I've tried.

The spread: Filipino eggrolls or "lumpia", Filipino chow mein noodles or "pancit", shrimps sauteed in garlic sauce, baked fish (a humongous one at that). For the kids, we ordered pepperoni and cheese pizzas.

The backyard. It was a Spongebob-themed party, hence the yellow balloons.

The cake. It was ordered from an asian bakery where the cakes are known to be light, airy, not-too-sweet (compared to regular store-bought cakes). Nestled in the folds of the cake are fresh, sweet strawberries in custard cream. Divine!

Pin the Nose on Squidward game

Of course, it ain't no party without the piñata.

Helping him open his presents.

OK, back to business! Here's what's coming up next on The Shades Of U:
