Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Hair Styling Collection Review
Wednesday, August 19, 2009
I was given the chance to try this new collection from Herbal Essences called "Tousle Me Softly", which aims to give this sexy, carefree, just-got-out-of-bed hair look. Since I have short hair, I've been really aiming for a piecey, scrunched-up look that would give more volume to my fine hair, and some of the products in this collection helped me achieve that look. Many women want hair that looks like it didn't take them a whole hour just to make it look sexily tousled. There's a fine line between having sexy, softly tousled tresses and looking unkempt and sloppy, so this new collection by Herbal Essences will attempt to help you create the proper look without looking like you tried too hard - or like you didn't try at all.
First of all, I really love the packaging of this collection. Purple is one of my favorite colors (as you can tell by my blog). Usually, styling products are housed in red, blue, and black containers, so it's just so refreshing to see so many purple products on my bathroom counter. The splash of purple is a welcome sight, especially in the morning, because for some reason these bottles and tubs really cheer me up.
I also love the amazing scent of these products. They are infused with essences of wild violet and pomegranate which smell so fresh and yet not cloying nor too fruity. As the day wears on, the products leave a faint, fresh, pleasant smell on the scalp and hair.

The shampoo is a nice, lilac-colored product that really smells good, and seems very light on my hair, which is good since I have limp, baby-fine hair. The conditioner is rich but didn't appear to bog down my hair, which is a plus since I usually skip conditioners because I apparently don't need them that much as I have oily, limp hair. The fact that I only used just a tiny amount probably helped.

The spray gel didn't do much for me, unfortunately. I didn't know what to do with it, but maybe it could work to spray on the hair roots to give it more volume. I didn't like this product that much, because it didn't fit into my hair-styling routine. This would probably work for those with long, flowy locks that need some styling aid and yet want to retain that carefree tousled look.
I really like the mousse. As I keep saying, the violet splash scent smells great. I place a very small amount on my palm and work it through my semi-damp hair, and then I blowdry it, creating amazing volume and shine.
The finishing touch cream blew me away. This is such an amazing product. I take just a dime size amount, rub it in my hands and apply on my hair after blow drying (or you can also apply this to semi-damp hair). I scrunch up my hair and make it look as piecey and tousled as I want it to be. I style my hair to give it more volume and edgy, piecey locks, and this product delivered. It's basically like my hair wax but in a much bigger tub for a much lower price: $5.49 for a huge 7.6 fl.oz tub. This gets rid of the flyaways and tames little stray hairs, but provides a carefree, sexily tousled look.
The Flexible Style hairspray is, true to its name, a product that sets my hair after I've styled it using the finishing touch cream to hold that piecey look I was going for, but it doesn't make my hair look too stiff and crunchy. It still gives that natural look while holding on to your style. If you want ultra-hold hairsprays, though, this might not be a product for you.
All in all, this is a good line especially if you are going for that tousled, just-got-out-of-bed hair. Most products worked for me with the exception of the spray gel. I also like how reasonable the prices are, which is great especially in this economy. You can find this new line at your neighborhood drugstores, supermarkets and other retailers.
