MAC Naked Honey: Review and Swatches Part 2

Overall, I feel that MAC Naked Honey collection is going to be remembered more because of its innovative and refreshing bath and body products that celebrate the golden gift of nature, honey. In terms of the makeup offerings, however, I went to the MAC store and played with the items, but I left the store underwhelmed. There wasn't any product from this collection that stood out for me, or maybe because I already have similar colors? Whatever that is, I was glad MAC didn't reel me in this time, because my wallet is thanking me! (ETA: Hmm...I guess not. Today is MAC Friends and Family Sale! 25% off online items! Check it out!) I guess the real reason I wasn't that attracted to the colors is that they are very basic, neutral shades that a MAC newbie would probably be elated to get. However, if you have been using or collecting MAC for quite a while (like me), you wouldn't find the colors unique, especially if you love neutrals.

As for the lipglasses, my favorite is Buzz because I don't have any lipglass that has an abundance of the beautiful copper reflects it contains. Queen Bee is a mid-tone apricot with multi-dimensional pearl, and would probably look lovely on about anybody; it's pretty universal. She's a Star is another one of MAC's milky white lipglasses, and I already have several in my makeup stash that I didn't even give this a second glance. I believe if you are just starting with makeup, these lipglasses are going to be staples in your makeup kit. For me though, with the exception of Buzz, they were a little "meh".

As for the eyeshadows, again, if you are just starting your makeup collection, these are great basic shades to get. Buckwheat is probably going to be your staple for crease color, a dark copper brown with multi-dimensional pearl. As I said in my previous review, Creme de Miel is similar to Ricepaper, with just a little bit more white in it than yellow (Ricepaper is more yellow). Polinator is a mid-tone warm reddened peach with pearl, which I didn't like because when I swatched it, it hardly picked up any color and the pay-off wasn't that good. I would suggest getting Buckwheat and Creme de Miel if you don't have similar colors yet. These are very basic crease and highlighting shadows that you would be using often and get a lot of mileage from.

As for the highlight powders, I prefer Golden Nectar because it is tanner than Honey Light, and would make a good bronzer as well. These highlighters are similar to the Balloonacy collection's highlight powders which have a film of sparkly substance on top, and becomes matter as soon as the sparkly coating wears off. If you don't like your highlighters to be on the matte side, skip these products. As you can see, the swatches hardly showed on my skin, and I used the tester without the sparkly coating on top. However, if you don't like sparkly highlighters and would like a touch of bronzed effect, I suggest you get the Golden Nectar. These are definitely not mineralize skinfinish-glowy, especially after the sparkly film wears off. I can only wonder why the sparkly finish was not incorporated throughout the entire product. But as I said, if you like matte-ish highlighters, that would be a good thing.

All in all, Naked Honey (the makeup items) didn't really thrill me because I already have most of the colors, with the exception of Buzz and Golden Nectar. However, if you're new to MAC, you will find basic colors that every girl should have in her makeup kit. I recommend Creme de Miel, Buckwheat, the three lipglosses if you don't have these shades yet.
