Jouer Cosmetics: Custom Luxury Beauty

Jouer is a brand that has attracted clientele similar to that of Bobbi Brown: customers who are seeking classic, classy shades that enhance the natural beauty of the modern woman instead of overpowering it. Jouer is a high-end brand that has all the blissful perks of luxury: very finely-milled product, amazing finish and pigmentation, and overall excellent quality. Jouer however is not all fluff and frills but it is practical as well. I was pleased to note that their cheek and eye products have grooves on the sides of the cases designed to interlock into one another, creating your very own customized palette. You can mix and match the shades in your palette to throw in your weekend bag for a few days out of town, or just to tote around in your purse. I give the inventor of these interlocking makeup compacts two thumbs up; it is so simple yet ingenious at the same time.

Above are samples of the interlocking compacts. They are individually boxed, but the grooves on the sides let you slide these beside one another to create your customized palette. Pretty clever.

These products are very finely milled, reminiscent of NARS shadows and blushes. They are also pigmented and just glide like butter on the skin. The cream eyeshadow in Feather also doubles as a tearduct highlighter, to make the eyes more awake and fresh. I like both products but I am just blown away by the blushes. They are really beautifully pigmented and finish is outstanding. I applied the blush using my MAC 136 brush and I was floored. The finish is gorgeous, not splotchy at all.

These eye definer pencils glide smoothly on the lids and can also be used on the waterline. They are not hard to work on the lids at all, and don't tug at your eyes.

I have not tried the lipstick yet, but the lip gloss in Pink Sand is amazing. I have a ton of glosses and yet I don't have a gloss that has the exact shade, texture and finish as Pink Sand. The website describes it as "shimmering bronze pink", and the description is spot on. I really oohed the minute I swatched it. It's just gorgeous.

The age-repairing brightener is similar to my Urban Decay 24/7 concealer, but it is packaged in this lipstick tube and is a lot better because you don't need to sharpen it. This truly brightens my undereye area, and I use it as an undereye concealer or to conceal darker areas of the face like around the nose.

The downside is that the price is not cheap: Lipglosses are $20 a pop, lipsticks $22 each, eyeshadows are $20 and blushes $24. The prices remind me of NARS' as they are both high-end. You get what you pay for, though, in terms of quality. I have heard about the "lipstick index" in these tough times: there are studies that indicate that as the economy takes a downturn, lipstick (or cosmetic) sales go up. It's an indicator that women feel the need for small indulgences that don't break the bank as much as let's say a designer purse or a new pair of designer shoes. Jouer Cosmetics gives this feeling of luxury to the modern woman in their uniquely and practically designed products with great pigmentation, quality and finish.

I wore Feather cream shadow as base, Caramel on the lid and Caviar on the crease, NARS eyeshadow duo in All About Eve as highlight. I used Blossom mineral powder blush and Pink Sand lipgloss on the lips.
