Golds Using Aromaleigh Elemental Lustres and MAC 214 Brush
Monday, February 16, 2009
I finally laid my grubby hands on the gorgeous MAC 214 brush. It's officially described as a small shader brush on the MAC site, but it is mainly a smudge brush, but it can have a variety of uses. It can be used to smudge lines to create a sultry smokey eye look, and the stiff but very dense hairs can likewise apply color effectively on the lashlines. It can also be used to pack color on the lid, or to create a defined crease.
I had a hard time getting this brush because it was already sold out at all the MAC stores and counters around me, and even in the one store in California that I'd planned to go to because we regularly visit our relatives there. It was also sold out at the MAC site, so I just decided to call the MAC Pro store in LA. They were so accommodating and they actually take phone-in orders, so I immediately ordered the 214 when they told me that they had a lot in stock. It came out a little more expensive because I had to pay for shipping, but they shipped it on the very day I ordered, and UPS had to secure my signature when they delivered it. I liked how secure the MAC Pro Store's order system is. I guess if you guys have trouble finding a particular discontinued or sold-out MAC product, you can always call the nearest Pro store and place a phone-in order. Thanks to the Pro store, my Brunette Blonde Redhead brush family is finally complete:
I will be using the 214 for the look/tutorial below. I dug out my Aromaleigh Elemental Lustre samples and played with them for this look. I used to hate the Elemental Lustres because the texture was chunky and metallic shine was just too much for me, until I realized that this eyeshadow formula works best when used dry, not foiled on the lid. It is probably obvious that I really like Aromaleigh's shadows. They are very pigmented, apply like butter on the lids, and are vibrant and not just mere mica bombs like some mineral shadows are. Here are the Elemental Lustres I used for this look:
All products Aromaleigh unless otherwise stated.
Apply Urban Decay Primer Potion of lid and lower lashline. Smooth with finger. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply MAC Indianwood paint pot on lid.
Using the MAC 239 brush, apply Gleam dry on lid (I took the picture before I evened out the product, so pardon the wonky application).
Using the 239, apply Mutiny dry on mid to outer lid. Using the same brush, apply Crucible dry on outer lid, blending into Mutiny.
How it should look so far.
Using a fluffy shader brush, apply a neutral beige eyeshadow on the edges of the shadows above the crease to blend out harsh lines.
Using same shader brush, apply Solange dry on outer V and crease (Solange from the Bete Noire shadow collection).
Using the MAC 214 brush, apply Gleam on inner lower lashline and Mutiny on outer lower lashline. Tightline and waterline using Victoria's Secret's kohl pencil in Black Velvet.
Highlight using a shimmery light goldish eyeshadow. Apply MAC Blacktrack fluidline using Sonia Kashuk's bent liner brush. Apply Red Cherry falsies #15. Apply mascara.

definately treating myself to a few after my "no-buy" period ends...
Oh my god that's so gorgeous!
I've not tried those AL shades, aside from Solange. Gleam and Mutiny are so pretty on you!
I definitely like the elemental lustres I have - Wonder, Fume, Swank, Underworld, etc. They do apply nicely :)
Nikki- thank you! You will love the 226, I promise. :)
Jamilla- thank you! I'm honored!
Paint Me Gorgeous- I agree; MAC brushes are worthy investments, they will pay for themselves over time.
Phyrra- you will love these colors too. Gah! Love AL shadows so much!
