MAC Neo Sci-Fi Recap
Saturday, June 7, 2008
I did a Neo Sci-Fi look in this entry, and I mentioned how much I loved this collection, especially the eyeshadows. The warm, celestial colors are so gorgeous, and I know that these hues are classic shades that I will wear for years to come. They can also be either as neutral or as dramatic as you want them to be. Magnetic Fields makes for a great smokey eye, with its gorgeous black-brown hue with silver pearl. Femme-Fi is becoming a favorite of mine because it is a terrific highlighter, a frosty golden cream. Evening Aura is a frosty golden peach which is beautiful as a highlighter for medium to darker skintones. Time & Space, a beautiful frosted copper, is most often compared to Woodwinked. I have the latter but I couldn't seem to resist the packaging! I am not a fan of neon orange but there is some unknown pull that made me gravitate toward these products with the outrageous packaging. Lastly, I have Expensive Pink in the regular packaging so I didn't include it in the photo, but it's a great lid or wash color, described as pink with gold duochrome. The best part of this collection is that every shadow is a veluxe pearl, and these have the most buttery slip and just glide like a dream on the lids. I just love veluxe pearl formula shadows!
As for the lipglasses, Naked Space is similar to the lighter colored glosses from previous collections like Be-In or Bonus Beat from Heatherette. Supreme is a bronzed brown with white pearl, very similar to Factory Made, another LE lipglass. I have Factory Made so I'm skipping this one. Pink Grapefruit is a pretty orange lipglass with gold pearl. I am still debating if I should get this one, because I already have Orangedescence and Sock Hop (Heatherette). I heard that it's a favorite though, and the product name is totally up my alley, it seems so luscious! Of course, Soft & Slow is a fave of mine, a midtone creamy plum that goes very well with my skintone.
The lipsticks. Ahh. Electro is a really bright orange, and the reason why I like it is that it is the most unique lipstick in my stash. I mean, when you wear it for a night out in town, you can bet that you're the only one who's wearing bright orange lipstick, unless of course the other ladies decided to wear their Electro as well. It may look scary but it can definitely be toned down with light lipglass if you prefer it that way, or you can wear neutral eyes and cheeks and just go all out with Electro. Either way, it is a very pretty, unique color and I am excited to wear it. Pleasureseeker is a creamy peach that is being compared to Lollipop Loving from the Heatherette collection. I have Lollipop Loving and frankly, I prefer Pleasureseeker because the green undertones of LL make me look a bit sick, at least in my opinion. Pleasureseeker is just straight-up peach, which is so beautiful in its simplicity. Makes me look like I have a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde personality with these two lipsticks in very opposite sides of the spectrum, but I love them both, and can be beautiful when worn on the right occasion. Astral is a midtone brown with red pearl - I have too many browns by now so I wasn't too keen on this. Sunsonic is a white gold, frosty lipstick, a pretty color for the right skintone but is a little too outer space-y for me.
As for the blushes, Spaced Out is a beautiful, shimmery peach. I love wearing this because it's neither in-your-face coral, nor is it too light. In contrast, X-Rocks is a shimmery dirty mauve that is a bit dark, but can double as a bronzer. It is best used with a stippling brush, or MAC's 187.
Plasma Blu and Neon 8 nail lacquers with some Naughty Nauticals stuff
I LOVE the nail lacquers. If I were a teenager, I would get all colors. These are fun colors to welcome summer. I love Plasma Blu and Neon 8, and I would get Phosphor which is a bright, bumble-bee yellow, but I am simply just too old for that.
All in all, I'd say that Neo Sci-Fi is one of my favorite collections released this summer, if not my most favorite. I like the fact that this offers a little something for everyone - from teenagers to seventy-year-olds. The eyeshadow colors are classy and classic, and the nail lacquers funky and fun. The packaging is also one of the most outrageous but also one of the more memorable. I really think MAC has one of its better collections in Neo Sci-Fi.
