MAC In 3D: 3D Glass Review and FOTD
Tuesday, August 7, 2007
I think the MAC Powers That Be finally heard my prayer when I uttered one for the release of a lip product that is not as sticky as the lipglasses but has the high-wattage shine of lip gelees without the overload of reflects, and with the nourishing properties of a lip balm. The 3D Glass is the answer to that prayer. It is somewhat similar to lip gelees but is an entirely different organism. It is not as runny or watery as the gelees but actually yields color and pigment, especially the darker ones. It is closer to the lustreglass in consistency, but I prefer the 3D glasses to the lustreglass which seems to me like diluted lipglass because although it is real pretty, the texture and finish are the same as the lipglass. Also, the 3D glass is definitely a welcome respite from the stickiness of lipglasses. I mean, many a long-haired maiden have complained of the lipglass snagging their hair like a fly in ointment; and really, the lipglass' stickiness is a downside. The 3D Glass however is a creamy mixture of high shine, lip balm nourishment, and lovely pigment. It reminds me SO much of Lancome's Juicy Tubes but with a better packaging (didn't care much for squeeze tubes) and better selection of gorgeous colors. I have always loved the CLEAN shine of Juicy Tubes (I sometimes crave for a pure, wet shine as opposed to shine with reflects). Lip gelees would sometimes do the trick but they have absolutely zero staying power. 3D Glass yields color, wet high-wattage shine and decent staying power. This also "babies" the lips as this is as soothing as a lip balm. I also discovered that the 3D Glass is great when layered over matte lipsticks. My Aromaleigh lippies are loving them!
Algorithm: this is my ultimate favorite from the bunch. This is actually a dupe of my precious Juicy Tubes in Beach Plum, in a convenient tube and brush applicator. I love the intense plummy color, similar to Sex Ray lipglass without the chunky glitter.
Wondershine: lovely watermelon-y color when applied, however, I don't like the orangey stain it leaves on my lips.
Apex: a pretty coral color, and to me it looks best over brown-tinged lipsticks.
Racy: looks like a hot pink color in the tube, but applies sheerly so it is in fact very wearable. I like it used with a dark liner for maximum oomph.
Backlit: Love, love, love! I crave for these kinds of duo-chrome lip products and the sheen they impart. The irridescence is amazing. I can compare the irridescence (but slightly different in color) to my favorite Pas-de-deux lipglass from the Danse collection.
Lightswitch: a pretty light pink, though I cannot see myself using this by itself because it is so sheer it looks like petroleum jelly on the lips. It would make a matte lipstick a lot more interesting, though.
Energy: it's a very light creamy lip gloss with pinkish coral reflects; this would look beautiful layered over lipsticks of any color.
In 3D is a lighter version of Racy and Wondershine; a marriage of pink and coral.
Touch Point: a beautiful mauve-pink with blue undertones that looks great over my matte lipsticks.
Boundless is a daring hot pink-red, but mellows down to a nice bright pink on the lips. The secret to adding more oomph to this and other 3D Glasses is to use a dark lipliner.
Synched Up is a creamy peach with a lot of pink sheen, it's becoming a frontrunner for me as well.
Optical: since I like browns and beiges, I like this color. Not as beautiful as Algorithm, though, but pretty when used with a dark liner.

Love the review! So comprehensive! But I do love my Wondershine 3DGlass. It's time that I use my Algorithm 3D Glass and see how it looks on me.
Thank you! I love Wondershine too, but I hate the stain it leaves. Other than that, it's a beautiful color.
