We see so many hair care lines that cater to different hair types: oily, fine, curly, dry, damaged, color-treated, you name it, but I don't think I've ever seen a line that addresses the issues of aging hair. Well, until now. Nexxus has created a line called NeXXus Youth Renewal. It combats 8 signs of aging hair: volume loss, breakage, less shine, roughness, dryness, brittleness, unruliness and loss of color vibrancy. The brand claims that its Vita-8 Complex helps improve color radiance, shine, strength, and volume, as well as reduce frizz.
I was able to try two of the products from the Nexxus Youth Renewal line. Let's first talk about the Youth Renewal™ Rejuvenating Shampoo. Nexxus claims that gently cleanses hair to help rebuild volume, vibrancy and vitality. When I tried this product, I can honestly say that it wasn't very heavy on the tresses, making my hair look and feel lightweight with a lot of volume. I like the clean scent it gives, and I really like how it gives a healthy shine to my hair. It has Omega-3, Vitamin E and Argan Oil (my favorite!) to infuse moisture and give the hair a healthy glow.
I am not a fan of just any kind of shampoo, just because I have fine, limp, color-treated hair. I am always looking for a product that will not make my hair look flat and lifeless, and at the same time, protect my hair color and won't strip off the hair dye. I was glad (and relieved!) to find out that the Youth Renewal™ Rejuvenating Shampoo gives lots of volume to my hair without stripping off my hair color.
I agree with Nexxus that what you use on your hair in the shower will affect the way you style it. This shampoo did deliver in making my hair look shiny with volume. Those two are the main ingredients in my quest for the perfect shampoo for my hair type.
After washing my hair, I need a product that helps the volume last the entire day. I tried the Nexxus Youth Renewal Rejuvenating Lift Spray that promises lasting hold and weightless volume. It is a non-aerosol product that is good for the environment. You apply this product before blow-drying to give the hair maximum lift and volume with a natural-looking hold. Generously mist your towel-dried hair with this product, and for maximum results, blow dry your hair with your head upside down. Use your fingers to fluff your hair while touching your scalp to lock in the volume at the roots.
It has a sweet scent similar to cotton candy, so this is not for those who are sensitive to scents, but it did not bother me. It does hold my hair without making it feel too stiff, and it let the style look soft and natural. It gives the illusion of thicker hair without looking too fake or cotton-candyish (like you dumped an entire can of hairspray on your hair).
Let's face it, our hair will start to age as soon as we expose it to harmful elements like the sun, or heat styling tools like curling iron and hair dryers. I don't like staying out in the sun, so I protect my hair by not going out too much especially during hot summer days. I also limit my hair-drying time using a blow dryer to about one minute tops. I let my hair air-dry, then style it when it's semi-dry, so I don't unnecessarily expose my hair to heat for a long time.
