As you probably remember, the first Fashion Sets Collection came out last year. It is a collection of coordinating hues for lips, eyes and nails. Now, they also added lip pencils to the mix. I am excited for this first Fashion Sets collection as I really loved the coordinating lips and tips from last year's set. This time, you can really amp up the monochromatic look with these new items!
Let's start first with the lippies in this collection.

As far as the lipsticks go, they are all matte, so some of them are hard to apply on dry lips. Make sure to moisturize prior to application. Over moisturized lips, though, they glide well, have great pigmentation, and very vivid, which is obviously what most of us are going for come summer time. These shades are really great summer colors, and I can't wait to make the most out of these.
The lip pencils are also on the matte side, and they are quite vivid and pigmented. If you want the coordinating lipstick to have better staying power, filling in your lips with the same-colored lip pencil would be a good idea. In the lip swatches above, though, the lip liners were applied on the outline of the lips, and you see that the lip pencil shade really blended well with the lipstick's.
As far as the shades go, I am really loving Heroine, which I already had from a previous collection. It's a beautiful bright violet/purple. I'm warm-toned but it really brightened my complexion.
Ablaze is another beautiful shade, although I don't know if it will suit all skintones. It's a bright apricot matte. I love the orangey-coral shade.
Silly is probably my least favorite as it might be a bit too light cool for my skintone by itself. I would have to wear a darker or warmer lipgloss over it, although it's not really bad when worn alone unlike other light pinks that I've worn. It's a bright pink matte; very springy and summery.
Embrace Me is a bright fuchsia. It's a pretty color and I think this is the universal shade, something that would suit a wide variety of skintones.
All in all, I think we've seen these shades before. They are not very unique colors, but it's nice to see different products that have exact shades, a fool-proof way of applying coordinating colors. I also like that MAC incorporated matte lipsticks in this collection, as matte lipsticks almost always look classic, especially the vivid ones.
Watch out for the rest of the MAC Fashion Sets items' reviews and swatches!
