Happy New Year! The new year is upon us, and of course, it brings a lot of new collections from different brands that are in store for the cosmetic junkies like us. Here's one of the most anticipated nail polish collections of 2013, as it features superstar Mariah Carey.
I am excited about this collection because it features four new OPI Liquid Sand™ lacquers featuring a textured, matte finish infused with reflective sparkle.
Here are the Mariah Carey by OPI swatches and my thoughts on them:
(shade)
OPI A Butterfly Moment is a very pretty pinkish nude shimmer. It looks very clean on the nails, and indeed this is a shade that I can really imagine Mariah Carey wearing. This is one of the prettiest pink nudes I own.
OPI Sprung (sunlight)
(shade)
(shade)
OPI Sprung is gorgeous. It is a multi-chrome copper sparkle that has flashes of copper, gold, red. It is quite similar to the finish of OPI's It's My Year from the Miss Universe collection, but Sprung is more copper than purple or pink. However, both have that great glass fleck finish.
OPI Anti-Bleak (sunlight)
OPI Pink Yet Lavender over Anti-Bleak (sunlight)
(shade)
I am super loving OPI Pink Yet Lavender. This is my first time to own a polish with pink glitter with lavender shimmer in a clear base, at least a non-indie one. The bigger round pink glitters contrast prettily with the tiny purple micro-glitter.
Now we come to the OPI Liquid Sand™ lacquers. These have a gritty, sand-like texture (hence the name), but they are very eye-catching and sparkly. These dry matte, and OPI recommends that you do NOT apply topcoat. It is of course still up to you, but there is something about matte gritty-looking yet sparkly nails that is quite attention-grabbing.
Here are the Mariah Carey Liquid Sand™ lacquers:
OPI Get Your Number (sunlight)
(shade)
OPI Get Your Number is medium blue Liquid Sand lacquer. It is a matte blue with sparkle and it looks really pretty on the nails. As with all the Liquid Sand lacquers, this feels gritty on the nailbed, but it just feels like you applied craft glitter on your nails, but of course the final look is a lot more stunning.
OPI Can't Let Go (sunlight)
(shade)
OPI Can't Let Go is one of the prettiest Liquid Sands in my opinion. It is a beautiful purple matte with sparkle. Same gritty texture, but the royal purple really stands out.
OPI The Impossible (sunlight)
(shade)
(shade)
OPI The Impossible is my favorite right along with Can't Let Go. It's a vibrant matte fuchsia, but get this: it has star confetti glitter! Sooo gorg. It has some black sand-like particles are intermixed as well, so the contrast is apparent.
OPI Stay The Night (sunlight)
(shade)
OPI Stay the Night is mesmerizing. It's a gorgeous matte black with red glints of glitter. I don't usually like black lacquers but this is stunning.
All in all, the winners of this collection are obviously the Liquid Sand lacquers. I am loving all of them, but my favorites are the purple, black and fuchsia. The Liquid Sand finish is the kind where you either love it or hate it, but I think this will be one of the biggest nail trends of 2013. What do you think?
Mariah Carey by OPI nail lacquers contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. This promotion will be available beginning January 2013 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.
