MAC Beth Ditto: Vagabondage and Near Beth Experience Nail Lacquers Swatches and Review

MAC Beth Ditto collection items

I was able to try some of the items from the MAC Beth Ditto collection. I know that there are some new products in this collection that a lot of people are curious to know about, but I will save them for later, so stay tuned!

For now, I will be reviewing and swatching two of the nail lacquers in this collection.

Near Beth Experience

Near Beth Experience is a soft butter yellow creme. As with many pastel cream formulas, this one is streaky and would take at least 3 coats to even things out. I really really like the shade, as this is one of the more wearable yellow nail lacquers I own, but the formula is so-so. However, it is not impossible to work with - you need to apply at least three coats for it to look decent. The formula is a bit thin too - and I guess that is the reason for the streaky application. However, I did not find the formula to be difficult to work with, because it eventually evened the streaks out after three coats. For $15 a pop, though, I would love it to have the rich, smooth application of some of my similar-priced nail lacquers.

Vagabondage

Vagabondage is a lot better than Near Beth Experience when it comes to the formula. I don't know if it was because it is not a stark, pale cream. This is described as a mid-tone lavender cream although it comes out in the photos as a bit more pink. This is a beautiful shade and very feminine. The swatch is 3 coats and it didn't produce streaks; I applied it quite easily.

All in all, I prefer Vagabondage in terms of formula, but I like Near Beth Experience's wearable shade of yellow. If I have to choose, however, I would get Vagabondage, although its shade is not as unique as Near Beth. I am a bit saddened that MAC's nail lacquers have become quite expensive as of late; I still remember the $11 price tag not too long ago.

Available: North America June 7, 2012, International June 2012

Watch out for the reviews/swatches on the rest of the Beth Ditto items soon!

Note: Media sample was provided by a representative of the brand for consideration. All opinions are completely mine.
