I was able to try some of the products from MAC Vera collection which is actually inspired by and named after textile designer Vera Neumann (1907–1993). She is an artist in the truest sense of the word, and has come up with artistic creations such as her iconic butterflies, flowers and geometrics. In this entry, I will be talking about the crushed metallic pigments, but I will be reviewing the rest of the products in the next few posts.

We know that crushed metallic pigments are similar to MAC pigments, but they are way more metallic and frosty. Here are some of the ones from Vera:

My favorites are the ones I have, Aloha and Butterfly Party stacks. I like the champagnes and taupes of Aloha, I figured that since they are in the neutral palette, it would be easier to create looks using these as the shades are pretty wearable. Lantern Light is a metallic goldish bronze, Campfire is a rich copper frost, Shifting Sands is a metallic champagne frost, and Aloha is a dirt cocoa brown frost (my fave!).

Butterfly Party stack has a lot of beautiful greens, purples, blues. Butterfly Party is a light lilac frost, Desert Cloud is a deep blue purple frost, Rain Drop is a metallic teal frost, and Moss Garden is a metallic silver green. The one thing I noticed about these is that there are some shades that easily glide on the skin, and some shades are gritty and do not apply well when dry, like Butterfly Party and Desert Cloud. These shades are better applied foiled or with a mixing medium. I am really liking the shades from this stack as they are bright, fun, but wearable and versatile.

Strawberry Patch is the one I like the least because I have a lot of similar shades from crushed metallic pigment stacks of previous collections. Star Crystal is a pink champagne, Rose Light is a metallic yellow pink, Strawberry Patch is a light blue pink, and Moon Rose is a bright dark pink.

Many are wondering what you can use these for. Aside from the usual lid or crease colors, you can apply this on the center of your lid just to accentuate the area, since a full on wash would be too frosty or metallic. You can also use this to highlight the inner corners or even the browbone when applied sparingly. You can also mix this with Fix+ or a mixing medium as a dramatic liner. There are a myriad ways to use these.

All in all, I am liking the crushed metallic pigments, and the palette truly complements Vera Neumann's style. I will be coming up with looks using these, so stay tuned.
