Here are some of my thoughts on the lipglosses from the new Bobbi Brown Neons and Nudes collection. I was quite surprised when I found out that Bobbi Brown has come up with a collection that featured neon colors, because we all know that Bobbi Brown is the epitome of subtle, classic, neutral beauty. However, what we find here is not a collection of screaming, over-the-top neons. True to Bobbi Brown's signature look, the collection features a pairing of bright neon colors balanced by soft neutrals. Even the neons have a certain soft, subtle quality about them. Take a look for instance at these lip glosses from the collection. These are very very shiny, but they are also quite sheer. The luscious shine makes up for the sheerness of the product, and quite frankly, they do not look too "neon" to my eyes.

Cosmic Pink is a fun candy pink in the tube, but it transforms into a very sheer but very shiny pink-tinged gloss. Ultra Violet looks like a dark blue-based purple in the tube, but it morphs into a subtle lilac-tinged sheer lipgloss. As you can see, on my pigmented lips, they do not really look all that different. I think this is would make a good layering gloss to apply over lipsticks for that moist, luscious lip look. It has a peppermint taste and scent which feels nice on the lips.

All in all, if you are not a fan of sheer lipglosses, these are not for you. I believe Bobbi Brown created these to complement the limited edition lipsticks that are also part of this collection. These lip products are supposed to be super vibrant (except for the neutral color), and I think the lipglosses were made to layer over these neon shades of lipsticks. Bobbi Brown also claims that this would look great over a nude eye to polish off your look. I also think the sheer quality of the lip gloss would look great over a neutral lip paired with dramatic or smoky eyes.

The lip glosses would be a great layering product over any kind of lipstick, be it neutral or vibrant, because the lip glosses are pretty sheer and will lend only a vibrant shine to the lips and not so much pigment. I think these lip glosses would be great for the summer when we want a lightweight, not too color-saturated lip product. However, if you are looking for a liquid lipstick type of a gloss with good color pay-off, well, these are not what you want.

Pros: Mega-watt shine, luscious-looking finish, lightweight feel, good staying power, good as a layering product over lipstick

Cons: not for you if you want a pigmented gloss, quite sheer
