MAC Fall Colour Initial Swatches and Review Part II: Angel Flame Quad, Pigments, Chromagraphic Pencils, Lipsticks
Wednesday, September 28, 2011
Here's the second installment of my MAC Fall Colour initial swatches and review. The first review pertained to the smokier and darker or more subdued colors of this collection. This time, we focus on the bright stuff.
Lipsticks:
Ruby Woo, Show Orchid, Fusion Pink, Neon Orange
Plum Bright, X-S, Fleshpot, Violetta
Sorry for the poor lighting but it was dark when I took these photos, but I will be taking swatches of these under sunlight so stay tuned! This collection has a total of eight lipsticks, and most of them are either in the permanent or PRO line. Fleshpot is a pale muted pinky beige in the satin formula. It is probably too pale for my skintone, but it may work with a pinker lipliner I guess. It will also look better paired with C-Thru lipglass. This is great for dramatic eyes of with any kind of look where you want to tone down your lips but still make a statement. Plum Bright may look dark in the tube and in the swatches, but you can just dab it on your lips and it will sheer itself out. It is a nice purple that brightens up the complexion. X-S is a dirty red chestnut that is really one of my favorites from this collection - very fall, and I wear these kinds of dark Morticia Adams-esque lips nowadays. It looks very edgy yet classic at the same time.
Violetta (left)
I have Violetta from the Venomous Villains collection and it is one of my favorite lipsticks ever from MAC. It is a bright, clean violet orchid in the amplified formula. Everytime I use this, my skintone brightens up. Such a pretty shade. Here is a clearer swatch from the Venomous Villains collection:
Ruby Woo is a vivid bluish red matte that a lot of people like because it is a blue-red, which therefore makes the teeth look whiter. I like Russian Red better because it is not as dry and matte as Ruby Woo.
Fusion Pink is a bright coral that is lovely in person. I will be getting this; it's perfect for fall, summer, winter, all year round! It reminds me of Toxic Tale from Venomous Villains (not in shade but the way it sort of radiates on the lips like neon), but pinker.
Neon Orange is a bright clean orange in the amplified formula. Not a fan. Too neon, too orange. Enough said.
Show Orchid is a vivid hot pink, also an amplified. This is lovely because it looks very festive on the lips; it has this purple-pink iridescence that looks very feminine and alluring.
Chromagraphic Pencils:
Process Magenta, Rich Purple, Basic Red, Hi-Def Cyan
I really have no idea how I would use the brighter pencils like Basic Red and Hi-Def Cyan as I don't do a lot of bright eye liners, but if Basic Red can be used as a lipliner, then I'm all for it. Process Magenta is a matte magenta that is great as a liner as well as Rich Purple. These are primary colors that work great especially if you need to add a touch of these basic hues for Halloween, or to use with artistic makeup, or even for a special event/everyday wear.
Eye Shadows:
Shock-a-holic, Blue Candy, Royale, Three Ring Yellow
I don't understand why Passionate was replaced by some beige-gold shadow, but that is not Passionate at all. It is a mid-tone red matte that was not in the Fall Colour display. I will put up swatches of the real Passionate soon. I used to have it but gave it away because I liked Post Haste (from the Matte2 collection) more because it blended better than Passionate.
Blue Candy is a very bright clean blue satin. Not a fan; too bright for me.
Shock-A-Holic is my fave, a deep purple satin that somehow reminds me of Shadowy Lady, but a little lighter, and Shock-A-Holic is more red-toned.
Royale is described as a clean violet matte, but it is more of a blue to me. Love the matteness of this one; very pretty.
Three Ring Yellow is a yellow green veluxe pearl, more yellow than green, obviously. I want this to pair with a lot of my greens, golds, browns, oranges.
Pigments:
Golden Olive, Violet, Magenta Madness, Neon Orange
I've had Golden Olive and Violet pigments ever since I started collecting MAC several years ago. Golden Olive is gorgeous; it's a high frost green-gold that is great to pair with deep hunter greens, golds, yellows, greys and neutrals. It's a very versatile shade and you can create 101 looks with it. Violet is another pigment that is part of the permanent line and has been repromoted countless times. Great with smoky purple and plummy/pink looks.
Magenta Madness is a very intense, matte neon blue pink. I can't think of a look that I can pull off using this pigment. Waaaay to bright for me.
Neo-Orange is an intense matte neon salmon. Another super bright color. Not my type.
Angel Flame Quad:
Chamomile, Angel Flame
Feather Pink, Gravel
Chamomile, Angel Flame,
Feather Pink, Gravel
I am not too fond of this quad and I prefer Parlor Smoke quad over this because I love the richer, darker colors. I also already have Chamomile from the Warm & Cozy collection of two years ago. Nonetheless, this is an okay quad if you like pinks and corals. I would totally snag Angel Flame if it's a single eye shadow pot. It is a gorgeous coral that flashes pink/yellow; reminds me just a tinge of Melon pigment. Feather Pink is nothing special; it is a medium pink in the satin formula and is hard to work with. Gravel is another one that I like from this quad; it is a blue-grey matte that has good pigmentation. Chamomile is your quintessential pale yellow frosty highlighter.
All in all, I prefer the more wearable shades from this collection, specifically the more subdued pigments like Golden Olive and Violet, Rich Purple and Process Magenta chromagraphic pencils, Fusion Pink, Violetta and X-S lipsticks.
