China Glaze Fall 2011: Metro Collection Swatches and Review

Here are swatches of some of the China Glaze Fall 2011 collection called Metro. These are divided into two sub-categories called Downtown and Uptown. I will be posting swatches of both categories in this post.

Trendsetter

Trendsetter is so pretty, it deserves five pictures. It is a gorgeous mustard yellow with beautiful gold flecks. It is not a stark sunshine yellow but think dijon mustard with gold shimmer. I didn't think I would love this, but this looks really gorgeous.

Westside Warrior

The "warrior" in the name is obviously alluding to army or hunter green. This is a shade you will want to have in your collection if you are tired of the usual pinks, reds, purples and nudes. However, this is not a very unique shade if you factor in the other army greens other nail polish brands came up with this season.

Street Chic

Street Chic is your requisite taupe fall color. A mousy cream that is certainly chic, but not that unique.

Urban Night

Urban Night is a red-based purple cream. Very rich and somewhat dark. I like purples so this is up my alley.

Concrete Catwalk

Concrete Catwalk is a steel grey creme that is quite edgy yet chic. I wouldn't wear it on its own though, as I find it too austere. I would Konadify it with some white or silver image to give it some character and oomph.

Brownstone

China Glaze describes Brownstone as a burnt terracotta cream. I am not really a fan of reddish browns on my nails, but I do admit it is very pretty, and the formula is fantastic too. I am just not into reddish browns.

City Siren

Now this is more like it! City Siren is a stunning deep red creme. It is deeper than a fire engine red, and yet it's bright enough to dress up any outfit for a night out in town. Breathtaking.

Loft-y Ambitions

Another stunner. This is a rich bordeaux, deep burgundy with shimmer. Such a classic fall color.

All in all, the formula of these is a little on the thicker side, but it doesn't bother me. It goes on very smooth, even, and not splotchy at all. Every color is even and opaque in two coats. I just used three coats for the swatches above so that sunlight will not wash them out. My favorites are Trendsetter, City Siren and Loft-y Ambitions. The other colors are okay, but they look a little too similar to the fall shades of other nail polish companies. It's probably not China Glaze's fault, but some of the shades are not unique. Maybe the murky, dusty kind of colors are the trend right now.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
