Zoya Summertime Swatches and Review

As I keep saying over and over, cream is my favorite nail polish formula. I love how sophisticated it looks no matter how bright or funky the colors are. Creams can be taken straight from the beach to the office, to church, to the night scene. That said, I really like that Zoya came up with a group of cream polishes for summer 2011. The colors are bright, happy, and truly scream summer. Here are some swatches of the Summertime collection.

Sooki

Sooki is a cherry red that is leaning towards cool to my eyes. It is opaque in two coats, and the finish is nice, application is easy, and did not give any problems in terms of streaking. Great for the tips and especially on the toes with sexy strappy heels.

Tamsen

Tamsen is a very warm red that pulls very orange to my eyes, or you can say it is a strongly orange-based red. It can pass for tomato red but brighter. I am not really into warm reds so this is not a favorite.

Mira

I am a sucker for purples so Mira is a favorite. It is also the perfect shade for me - neither too light nor too dark. It is a blue-toned purple. It reminds me of American Apparel in African Violet except that Mira is one or two shades lighter. Not too unique, but I can never have enough purple polishes!

Kieko

Kieko is the red-based purple in the bunch. It is berry-toned and is perfect for summer. I still prefer Mira over this, but Kieko is a nice alternative to pink if you want to mix a little dose of purple in your nail look.

Breezi

Breezi is of course the mandatory blue in just about every summer collection. Nonetheless, I really like this shade because it is not too bright, sort of a medium dusty blue. It's not the usual teal or robin's egg blue that you see when spring and summer roll around.

Areej

Areej is a soft muted fuchsia. It is a little surprising for me because Zoya opted to create summer colors that are not too flashy. Areej is perfect if you want to go for a pink nail color, but not the usual bright pinks. This one is softer and it has a generous amount of purple undertones to my eyes.

Pros: good formula, did not streak, opacity is very good, nice clean finish

Cons: colors are not very unique, they are straight creams and might not appeal to those who prefer some shimmer.

All in all, I really like this collection, maybe because as I said, I am partial to creams. The colors are not really that unique, so if you have these in your stash, you can probably skip some of the shades. However, I like the Zoya formula: opaque, creamy finish that is not streaky. Application is easy and finish looks great.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
