NYX HD Studio Photogenic Grinding Blush and Soft Matte Lip Cream Swatches and Review
Tuesday, January 25, 2011
I am getting to be very impressed with NYX Cosmetics. The products they are churning out just get better and better in quality, packaging and overall performance. They recently came up with the HD Studio Photogenic Collection, their new line of high definition makeup for an everyday flawless finish. This collection is part of their sub-brand which is their higher-end, premium line, because the product prices rival that of boutique or even mid-range department store brands, but I think these prices are still reasonable. However, with these products, I believe you really get what you pay for.
I was able to try one of the products from the HD Studio Photogenic Collection, and it's the HD Studio Photogenic Grinding Blush. This is my very first time to own a grinding blush, and it is so much fun to grind it because you can literally see the product being shaved into itsy bitsy shavings for you to consume.

This is how it looks like the first time you open the product. You peel off the sticker that stops and protects the flow of product.
The base of the jar can be rotated to shave a little bit of product onto the top of the jar.
The blush shade is called 03 Sangria in Madrid.
It's a pretty soft-matte reddish coral hue that gives a lit-from-within effect; kind of like a cheek stain in powder form. I like that it is a soft shade, neither garish nor too light. I also like how it's like a marriage of mineral and pressed powder blush. It is in loose form like a mineral blush (at least the shavings are), and it is convenient for travel just like a pressed powder blush. However, their similarities end there. It is not as messy as mineral blush because you can just shave a small amount of product just enough for one application, so you avoid messy spills. However, unlike a pressed powder blush, the product stays sanitary because the only things that touch your blush brush are the blush shavings. It is not messy, convenient for travel, and comes in 8 gorgeous shades. I haven't tried out the other shades, but if they are soft-mattes as Sangria in Madrid, then shimmer lovers might not like these; but of course, you can always apply highlighter on the cheekbones for a glowy effect.

Soft Matte Lip Cream
SMLC 01 Amsterdam
L-R: Grinding Blush in Sangria in Madrid, Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam
Okay, let me say that I am totally loving this. I have been looking for a lipgloss that operates like a matte lipstick but is not drying on the lips; in other words, a soft matte liquid lipstick. I have found it. This new lip product from NYX glides on the lips like a dream, doesn't settle into fine lines, gives a very smooth, soft matte finish that is just flawless, and most of all, doesn't dry out my lips. I love the rich, saturated color. Amsterdam is a super bright red that is the perfect '40s pin-up red lipstick shade. The soft matte formula likewise makes the look very vintage-y and romantic. I can't wait to get the other colors. I am a huge fan of NYX round and black label lipsticks because of the great quality, and this new lip product is no exception. The very affordable price makes it so easy to collect all 11 shades.
