YSL Holiday Collection Swatches and Review Part II: Nail Lacquers in Gold and White Gold

Here is Part II of the Yves Saint Laurent 2010 Holiday Collection swatches, and this time, we shall be focusing on the nail lacquers. If you have not read my previous review, check out the YSL Holiday Collection Swatches and Review Part I: Rouge Pure Shine, Golden Gloss, Eye Shadow DuoLumieres.

As I have mentioned in Part I of the review, The YSL Holiday 2010 Collection is all about Gold and its different nuances. Holidays call to mind all things ornate, dazzling, flamboyant, and YSL focuses on that image by infusing gold in each one of the Holiday items in this collection. Since the Holidays are also all about tinsel, white gold is also a shade that is highlighted in this collection.

La Laque (Nail Lacquers)

L-R - No 139 Gold, No 141 White Gold

Swatches and review after the jump

No 139 Gold

No 141 White Gold

If I can only describe the nail lacquers in this collection in just one word, it would be "festive". The La Laque nail lacquers come in a trilogy og gold shades (not in the photo is N 140 in Pink Gold),  and they come with "brushed" metallic glints that YSL describes as vintage.

N 139 is an aged gold metallic hue which is a favorite of mine.  It complements my warm skintone.  The formula is smooth and easy to apply, and would look great for holiday parties as it really does look Christmas-y to my eyes.  I believe I used two coats for the swatches.

N 141 is a White Gold that seems too stark silver for my complexion.  It has the same formulas as N 139, but I like the former better, but for the right skintone, this would look absolutely amazing on the tips for a New Year's Eve party.

The packaging is in the usual YSL see-through bottle with the gold cap.  It looks quite chic and stands out  in a sea of black caps of my other nail polishes.  I love the packaging although I would have to get used to having corners on the caps after getting used to a lot of round caps when applying polish.

All in all, I like the packaging and formula of La Laque.  I am partial to N 139 Gold, but you will also love the White Gold.  I think the only downside is the price.  At $20 a pop, it seems a bit steep, but I know polish heads wouldn't care, as the pretty packaging ang formula (and of course the YSL name) more than make up for it.

The Shades Of U Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars
