MAC Riveting to my eyes is a rocker chick's collection, or for somebody who is not afraid to be different or to stand out. If you go for classics and want to blend with the rest of the crowd, this is not for you. If you however want to show the world how you love your individuality and spunk, try these products out. The first thing I noticed about the colors is that these are not your typical neutral palette colors. They truly stand out, and the pigmentation, especially for the blushes, is way off the charts. Here are some of the colors I was able to play with, and my thoughts on them.
Swatches:
Lipsticks:
Metal Maven is a pale frosted silver that is very metallic/frosty. A funky lip look that would go well with probably a matte smokey eye to balance the bling-bling. I don't know if I can pull this one off but I will surely try.
I like Riveting; it's mid-tone dirty mauve taupe that is glaze in formula. I swatched this rather heavily to get as much color as I could, but this actually goes sheer and you can build the intensity of the lipstick. I like how it's some sort of mauvey-taupey-brown in color. Will definitely be using this.
Edited to add: I used these two lipsticks together: I layered Metal Maven over Riveting and bam! The effect is amazing!!
Blushes:
The first thing I noticed about these blushes was that they were super duper pigmented. Wow. I admit, I used a heavy hand when swatching, but even with a blush brush, they were a bit overwhelming. I used Dirty Plum today and it was way too much on the face, so I had to buff it in and add a little By Candlelight mineralize skinfinish to tone down the color. That's why here's a little tip: go easy on these blushes! Use a light hand and preferably a skunk or duo fibre brush like the 187 (although if you have the 188, that would be better, or that flat-sided duo fibre brush that MAC came up with last year).
Anyways, Full Fuchsia is described as a "very bright iridescent fuchsia". Now when MAC said "very bright", it wasn't kidding. It really meant super bright. That is why I think the 188 was included in this collection to use with these blushes to come up with a nice, softly flushed complexion. I am guessing if you use a regular blush brush, you would end up with clown cheeks unless you really buff it in. The color however is very pretty and can truly perk up the complexion.
Dirty Plum is a deep plum that might work either as a dark berry blush or contour shade. This is likewise very pigmented so a light hand is necessary and a little goes a long way.
Lipglasses:
Rest of product photos and reviews after the jump
Rock Out is a light icy silver with pearl. I have tons of lipglasses but this is the first time I've had this very unusual color. It's like a sheer mercury substance on the lips. However, the operative word is "sheer", as this can be very wearable because of the sheerness. Works great to tone down darker lipsticks or to create an icy lip look.
True Babe is a creamy mid-tone bright blue-pink. It is cream so I don't see shimmer particles in it. Best for a bubblegum pink-themed summer look, or just to lend a nice pink tinge to the lips.
Nail Lacquers:
So MAC finally joined the matte nail polish bandwagon, eh? The matte nail lacquers are actually the best kind of polishes to include in this collection - very edgy, very rocker chick. However, I myself am not a fan of matte polishes except maybe the matte with shimmer, like Studded, a matte true silver with pearl, or what you call a "suede". I can't wait to try Studded out. Wham, Bam, Glam is a matte cool, dark taupe that might look similar to OPI's You Don't Know Jacques matte version. Black Enough? is a matte black that is of course the matte version of MAC's Nocturnal black cream lacquer. I will be swatching these on the nails in another entry.
Penultimate liner in Rapidblack (bottom)
I did a review/comparison of Penultimate liner in another entry as this was repromoted several times, and here were my thoughts:
MAC Penultimate yields a very thin, heavily pigmented line, mainly because of the finer tip. I also love the fact that Penultimate is a lot darker than Almay, so just one application should be enough. I apply two lines of my Almay liner on the lashline to have the desired effect. All in all, I still like my Almay because it gives me the precise line that I like in less than five seconds, but the Penultimate is a winner as well because you can create precise, very fine lines with it because of its fine tip and very dark pigment. I am really loving it as well. The raves were true: The Penultimate rocks! I just hope that it lasts a long while because looking at the pen, you really wouldn't know how much is left in the tube.
That's about it for the sneak preview. I will be swatching the rest in a future entry.

For the full of fuschia blush, did you see any iridescent quality to it? Or shimmer?
Phyrra- it's a satin finish, so there's hardly any shimmer. There is a slight iridescence though when light hits it. Hope that helps.
What a great collection! I love the fuchsia blush and both of the glosses. The polishes are pretty, too. However, I'm still not totally on the matte bandwagon. The colors are fantastic though!
xx
thank you for the swatches, very useful for my next purchase!
Kate Gene- The fuchsia gloss is to die for! I wore it today and it's so pretty!
Blusherine- my pleasure =)
