MAC Electroflash: Mineralize Eyeshadows
Saturday, July 12, 2008
So yeah, uh-huh, I had to eat my words again. After hearing and reading so many raves about the "new and improved" mineralize eyeshadows, I was able to try them out, and yes, I gotta say they are a huge improvement from the past mineralize shadows from MAC. I have owned mineralize eyeshadow duos from as far back as the A Muse collection (Heat/Element, Illusionary/Burning Ambition, etc), and this collection so far has the most pigmented shadows saturated with awesome colors, and the slip is amazingly smooth and buttery. The past mineralize shadows were low in color pay-off and impart more shimmer than color, but this collection is entirely different. The colors are rich, deep and majestic.
Duos in natural light:
I've always been a sucker for greens, so Fresh Green Mix is my obvious favorite. It is a combination of a melange of golden olive with blue, gold and aqua, and a mono color in lime. I used this today and I contemplated on using this wet as I really didn't trust mineralize eyeshadows to produce vibrant color when used dry. I was so wrong. The minute I dabbed my dry brush on my lid loaded with the mono color, I was floored by how utterly vivid the pigment was. Granted that I used Lucky Jade shadestick as base, still, I was very impressed with the color pay-off because some shadows can be really duds even with a base underneath. It reminded me of Juxt shadow but Fresh Green Mix rivaled Juxt in color pay-off. The melange side was pretty as well and can be used to contour the crease and outer V.
Sea & Sky is a beautiful silvery pale blue with deep blue and silver veining, with a gorgeous bright blue mono color. I read that blues are really big this year, so I am thinking I can be using blues more often. The blue mono may look dark in the product photo, but applied (as shown by the swatches), it is a vivid blue that has phenomenal color pay-off. It is a visual feast as well - it looks like a miniature planet!
Love Connection is also a great duo because you can use both as lid colors. It is a pretty combination of pale beige with gold and blue veining and warm gold mono color. I am pretty sure I will not be able to use the warm gold hue on the crease because I find it too light to be used as a crease color. The upside is that I have a duo that features two lid colors, which also double as light shimmery washes.
I also like other pretty duos from this collection, especially Play on Plums, a peach gold with pink and bronze veining with bronzed burgundy mono color. It is just gorgeous. If only I didn't have a gazillion eyeshadows in my makeup arsenal, it would have been lovely to play with all of these.
So there you have it, my Electroflash review. Moral of the story is to actually test a product first before forming an opinion about it.
